Linda's Story
Life
I find turning 50 very liberating. I bought my last bottle of hair dye just before my birthday, and it's the first time I've seen my real hair color since I was 16. I sold my condo in the foothills and bought a retro house with character in town that is one mile from work, and I am thrilled to have a decent garden for the first time since I left Santa Cruz. I've been a vegetarian since 1996--I don't force my beliefs on anyone, but I will tell you it's a wonderful feeling to honor other living beings. The typing class I took in high school served me well--I've been able to support myself through the years and have morphed into a bit of a computer geek. le from other organizations, and really interesting meetings and conferences on aging and disaster planning up and down the state. Right now I'm working on a team to connect seniors with companion animals. I still love to sing and play my guitar--I wore out my beloved Takamine that I bought when I moved to San Francisco in 1974, and got my first Martin two years ago, and I love its full, rich, folky sound. My boyfriend and I perform together from time to time, and nothing suits us better than being part of a song circle with friends, which is why we love going to the Strawberry Music Festival at Camp Mather each fall (if you're there, please do look me up--I'm usually camped by the rocks behind Camp Pigout). When I'm not doing yard work and have a free weekend, I love to run up to Yosemite--just being there is so grounding. I love the people and critters in my life and feel very, very blessed.
