Linda's Story

hello to all. i am so happy to finally be able to get in touch with some of my portsmouth catholic classmates. i think about many of you very often ...... when i hear gary wrights "dream weaver" or pass norfolk collegiate or go through the portsmouth tunnel or see light blue high top chuck taylor converse or when my brother in law mentions his old neighborhood buddy ricky kresinski (spelling?)! talk about some memories. i was so sad to see the school building had been torn down - i had so hoped it would have been made a landmark of some sort. i mean we were all there - that should count for something. oh well! what has everyone been up to? me? well its a pretty simple story - after graduating i went to nursing school at depaul and then got my associates in nursing as a r.n. i worked at depaul in i.c.u and the trauma unit for about 11 years. i married, in 1988, a good catholic irish boy from a large family like mine. we lived in norfolk for 17 years and i became a widow when he was electrocuted in a freak construction accident in 2002. i stayed in norfolk with my three beautiful and wonderful daughters. meagan elizabeth is 21 and a junior at old dominion studying criminal law; mary katelyn (katie) is 17 and a junior in high school interested in pysical therapy or sports medicine and hannah is 12 and in the seventh grade. she has always wanted to be a veterinarian. i took time ...Expand for more
off after robert died and now work part time for the state board of nursing certifiying nurse aides. i teach online medical classes (anatomy, terminology, ethics, pharmacology, billing & insurance and so on) for a local career school. i also teach cpr and first aid in the community and at schools. i stayed active in sports - play co-ed softball when asked, golf one or two days a week and play tennis three or four days a week. i also belong on a bowling league in the fall / winter. all my girls are active in everything from soccer to field hockey to softball. we keep busy - gives you less time to think! my mom and dad moved to north carolina in 1991 to be near all the grandkids and all my brothers and sisters moved to within 3 hours of norfolk. as a matter of fact beth is married and living in norolk too. she married ed hughes IV (son of ed hughes the newscaster) my sainted mother passed away may of 2007 from kidney disease after fighting cancer and i still miss her every day. in july of 2007 i unfortunately found my oldest brother wayne dead in his shower fourth of july weekend - 2007 kind of sucked! i think thats about all i have for now. probably said too much anyway. now that i remembered i signed up for classmates.com and renewed my subscription - i would love to hear from any and all former "saints" take care and drop me a note or two. love ya linda (millard) farrell
