Linda's Story

Life My life bio...where do I start? O.K. here it goes, I have one grown married son, Shane, (he's 24 years old). I am not a grandmother yet. I have a couple of Arabian horses, 1 dog (Maltese) and 1 cat. I retired from Southwestern Bell Tele. Co. in 2000. I also retired from the Military in 1998 (8 Years active and 12 years reserve). I have lived in Texas since 1980, after having transferred from what was Mountain Bell in Grand Junction, Co. I presently live in Sugar Land (suburb of Houston) and have been in this same town since 1986. I married right after graduating from High School (August 1, 1968) but lost my long time friend and husband in 1969. He was killed in Vietnam. I remarried in 1977 and divorced in 1985...I have never remarried. Education wise..I have a Masters Degree in Business Managment, undergraduate degree in Paralegal Studies. I am at the present time a part-time teacher at a private school in Sugar Land. Thinking......???? of going back to school to get a Law Degree.. Haven't been back to Colorado since 2003. I am thinking of going back this summer to spend some time in Denver with my sister. Well, that's it..unless someone has a question that I have not addressed. Hope to hear from someone soon. Has anyone heard or know where Bernice Tafoya is? Linda Gallegos School I did not have a crush on anyone while I lived in Salida. As far as what teacher inspired me....no one that I can remember left any kind of impact or impression on me. The only one that really comes to mind is the head "Nun" at St. Joseph's Catholic School...Sister Ann Felice and that ruler she carried around with her. She was so mean, I can remember thinking, if that was what you became when you moved up the ranks of being a Nun, then how did they manage to make it to Heaven. If I could do it all over again. I was too young to be able to change anything at the time...but I did have some dreams. I basically just marked my time, enjoyed time with my family and waited to graduate so that I could go out and see the world and make some of my dreams come true. Anywa...Expand for more
y, my philosopy of life is and always has been that God put you where you were suppose to be, it was up to you to do something with what he gave you. So, if I could change anything...I would change nothing. College I attended the Center for Advanced Legal Studies and received an Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies. Then I went to the University of Houston and received my Bachelors in Management...finished up at the University of Phoenix - Houston Campus and received my Masters in Businesss anagement. Military I joined the U.S. Army in 1978. I chose the medical field, so..the Army said o.k. you want to work in the medical field. Well, they sent me to Ft. Jackson, SC and trained me as a combat medic then put me in a helicopter and sent me to work in the drug jungles of El Salvador and Honduras. Myself and many other members of my unit spent 2 years fighting off groups of men fighting to keep their drug fields. We weren't sent to the jungle to fight them but we ended having to shoot our way through the jungle to get to the poor peasants who needed medicine and medical attention. I don't know what was worse ducking bullets or trying to hide from those darn mosquitos. I swear they were so big you could have thrown a saddle on them. Anyway, after coming back from the jungle, I spent some time in the states then somebody thought we might do some good in Bosnia and Aphganistan. Those two locations were frightening. From the time I jumped off the helicopter until I was able to get back on one to come to the states...I am not ashamed to same I was scared. I carried a medical bag over one shoulder and a rifle over the other. You weren't too sure who was the enemy over there. Total time I spent in the military was 20 years (8 Active Duty and 12 Reserve Duty). I retired in 1998. Let me tell you, I grew up real fast and learned how fragile life is and how little it takes to take a person's life. All in all, I would never take the military experience back. I made some wonderful friends and learned that I can take and do alot more than I thought I could, even if I was scared 99.9% of the time.
