Linda's Story

Life After high school I worked at the phone company in Flemington for a year. As hard as it might be to believe, my parents not only discouraged me from going to college they convinced me it was unnecessary and never going to happen. I had a Latin father who would never let me out of his sight until I got married, I looked around and realized I needed more from life so I joined the USNavy. He couldn't follow me there. I loved boot camp and was the RCPO (for those in the know). My first duty station was NASC Pensacola as a personnelman. The Blue Angels flew overhead daily, as if only for my benefit. I love being in the middle of things. My second duty station was Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where I was a tour guide on the USS Arizona. I drove a 50' U Boat through Pearl Harbor and gave tours to civilians. Maybe you? While in the Navy, I married, had my son in Honolulu and divorced all too quickly. By 24 I moved "home" which was by then northern California. Both my brothers (as well as several NHRHS alumni) were living there and "farming". My parents followed my brothers lead and moved there as well. I divorced, moved to the Santa Cruz Mountains and three years later I met my current husband while work at a leading hard disk drive company in Silicon Valley. We married and combined our families, the two younger ones living with us. We lived in an area on the Monterey Bay that lookes very much like our part of New Jersey, apple orchards, rolling hills, and horses but only 10 minutes from the beach. We lived happily for 3 years before being transferr...Expand for more
ed to Singapore by my husband's company. We lived there for more than 10 years! I volunteered full time for the American Community and local charities, our two children attended the American School (4th grade through senior year) and my husband worked night and day. An exciting life style, lot's of travel has brought our family a more global outlook on the world. We are thankful for the time we spent overseas. Our eldest son is married and a successful engineer living in Denver; our middle daughter is about to marry and living in Park City, Utah. Our youngest son, Daniel is very happily married, a Paramedic and Firefighter as well as a father of 3. Since I've last updated my profile we've moved to Bangkok, lived, worked and volunteered for 3 years. We've since moved home and now live most of the year in Palm Desert, we travel some and spend the rest in San Jose in a loft in a historic cannery. We now have our 3 kids, all either married or about to be, so that makes 6 and 5 grandbabies, 5 and under. I am proud to be an American woman and very proud to be from Jersey. School Did you know that I attended 5 grammer schools and 2 high schools? That meant that I was the new girl 6 times. Because of this I learned how to make friends quickly but not to get too attached to anyone or any place. It has prepared me for my life. College After high school I worked at the phone company for a year and then I volunteered for the USNavy for three years. While serving I got married and had a son and then went to college while in Hawaii on the GI Bill.
