Linda's Story
In high school since I came from such a poor family, I had very little and so was an outcast. From what our children told me as they were growing up, things haven't changed much. But, having grown up that way, I vowed to never let that happen to our children - fortunately, my husband and I both had very good careers so they were well provided for.
I do remember most all the kids I went to high school with - my memory is a great asset. I do often think about some of those people I knew in high school and wonder how they are or what they are doing. But, I doubt most of them remember me, which is why I don't attend class reunions.
After graduation, I moved to San Diego and learned what it was like to be one of the popular kids - I often think that was when my life really began. I attended SDSU and became an RN, then when I left nursing and moved back to Grand Rapids, I went to GRJC for my Business Degree in Accounting. It has been many years since those humble, poor beginnings, but I think every step of it has been most worthwhile and ...Expand for more
so enlightening. Now as I encounter people who have much less than I have, I do what I can to help them. Life has been good to me and if I can help someone else to have a good life as well - I will. I love every facet of mine!
I am a huge animal lover and work with many rescue groups saving animals and avidly work for some of the laws concerning animals to be changed or added to the books. We have 3 Golden Retrievers and 1 Flat-coated Retriever - 3 of those animals are rescues as is our cat. Last year I worked to save 77 Eqyptian Arabian horses from severe abuse and neglect.
I spent 30 yrs in corporate America and then started my own accounting business, which I still do to a small degree. I also do editing for an author. My husband is a Director in the IT field and is planning on retirement in 2 - 3 yrs. I spent a year working in Japan and shorter periods of time in various other countries. I've spent a lot of time traveling - both for business and pleasure. Ireland is still my most favorite place to go - we've been there 5 times now.
