Linda's Story

Life Hello..... I will try to make this as condensed as possible. As many of you may remember I married Bill Martin in Nov. 1968 of my junior year in high school. I finished high school by attending night school in Salem and got my diploma in 1970. Lori was born in August of 1970, so no, I did not have to get married because of a pregnacy, I got married because I was young and stupid. Bill and I divorced in July of 1971 when he tried to commit suicide. I met Adrian (Sonny) DeLay while working at Fred Meyer in Salem and we married in July of 1972. Jenny was born in August of 1974 and we moved to Sheridan in May of 1977. Michael was born in August of 1977 and I opened up The Daisy Patch (flower shop) in September of 1978. My daughter Lori made me a grandmother in April of 1987 when Christina was born. Lori married in August 1987. My mother passed away in September of that year from heart problems. Lori had a son in Novemeber of 1989, who suffers from Tourettes & ADHD. Lori divorced and married Josh Rose (grandson of Mr. Rose, who taught at Chapman Grade School). Jessica was born to them in May 1999 and Emilee was born March 2003. Lori and Josh are now divorced and the girls live with him. Lori is living in McMinnville with a very nice man. Sonny and I divorced in March of 1990 because he had an alcohol problem. Richard Taylor and I married in August of 1992. He was divorced and had two sons in high school. I closed The Daisy Patch in November of 1992 because we were planning on moving to Alaska where Rich had taken a job in a logging camp at Two Moon Bay in September. Travis, Rich's son, who had graduated high school in June went up there to work also, but Rich decided to come home and took a job locally until we could afford to move up there. Meantime I took a job at the Bon March'e in Salem. The end of November there was a landslide at the logging camp and Travis was caught in it and died. Travis left a one year old son with...Expand for more
the lady he had intended to marry. In February of 1994 Rich took a job in Ninilchik Alaska and we moved to the Kenai Peninsula. In October of 1996 I opened up a shop in Homer in called, Heartstrings, Antiques, Flowers & Gifts in the Lakeside Mall. I operated that until my lease expired in 1999 then went to work for Northwest Cutters in a logging camp where Rich was working. I cooked and cleaned for fifteen men in a very remote area near the Indian village of Tyoneck across Cook Inlet. Had a very close encounter with a black bear while I was in the shower at camp. I learned to shoot a gun! Troy, Rich's son, met a local girl from Soldotna Alaska and they married in February of 2000. Troy and Autumn have three children, Brittany born in Jan. 2001, Dennis Feb. 2003 and Brayden May 2005. Jenny met a man in Missouri where she had gone to college after high school and they married in May 2000 and they do not have children yet. My son Michael lives in Beaverton and works for Fred Meyer and has a lovely lady in his life, who he plans to marry. We moved back to Oregon in December of 2001 and live in Dallas now. We live on five acres outside of Dallas off Kings Valley Hwy. in a double wide man.home. My father passed away in Oct. of 2002 and he had remarried after my mothers death to Goldie Smith (owned the DQ) and she passed away in Nov. 2002. My x-husband, Sonny, passed away from cancer in Feb. 2003. Rich and I went to Mississippi to help with the hurricane Katrina cleanup and intended to stay for a couple of years, but only stayed four months because of government nonsense. I had quit my job at Watershed (makes rainwear) in Salem to go down there. I have just been hired to work at the Dallas Walmart as a part time cashier. Rich is working up in Alaska for Alaska Interstate Construction Company and stays in a work camp. He works for six weeks then comes home for two and has been doing this now for a year. Troy also works for this company
