Linda's Story

Life I am the Principal of the Wells Village School on Lake St. Catherine in Wells, VT. Our school population is around 75. I oversee approximately 20 full and part time employees. I am beginning my 6th year and feel that I have been instrumental in transforming the school into a wonderful educational setting for our K-6th grade students. I celebrated my 20th anniversary with the Manchester Rescue Squad this spring. I am the 1st, 2nd & only female president ever and I've held the offices of Secretary, Vice-President,Training Officer and currently Treasurer. I am certified as an EMT-Intermediate with skills in IV therapy, administrtation of medications, airway management and defibrilation. I also drive a pretty mean ambulance! The volunteer work I've done has allowed me a tremendous opportunity for giving back to my community a bit of what I've gained from growing up & living here. It has been tremendously rewarding. There is no "high" like knowing you have saved someone's life. It has also provided me with the skills to advocate for friends & family during tough times. I've combined my two interests of education & emergency medical care as the chair of our RSWSU District Crisis Team. I have handled student suicide, deaths of faculty, administrators, parents & students, bus accidents and bomb threats. Virtually everything you hear about in large schools also occurs in small schools. I am an active member of my church, The United Church of Dorset & East Rupert in Dorset. I was the first woman moderator of the church. I've also served as a deacon, a member of the Christian Education Committee, as a Youth Group Leader and I sing in the ch...Expand for more
oir. In December my choir & I got to sing on stage with Judy Collins!!! What a voice & what a lady. She was phenominal and together we raised some serious money for Jamie & Martha Hathaway's organization to rid our world of landmines. In honor of my 50th birthday this year, I traveled to Italy in February. I visited David in Florence, St. Francis in Assisi, and Trevi Fountain in Rome. I was overwhelmed by St. Peter's Basilica & the Collesium. It's hard to believe that a VT country bumpkin is standing in the midsts of the Roman Gods. My other "great" trips have been to Bormio, Italy, Hawaii, and Scotland. I am still awed by places like the Holocaust Museum in D.C. and want to see much more of the good 'ole USA. Although I love visiting the ocean and walking on sandy beaches, it is the Green Mountains of VT that still touch my soul & call me back home. I am blessed with two intelligent, loving neices, five godchildren and a one-year old great neice. My parents are both still living although my father's health has been very difficult for a long time. My brother, Dan & his wife, Cindy Casey O'Leary live in Dorset, also. I am blessed with friends who love me, challenge me & set me straight as necessary. My goals include more learning & travel. I HAVE to see Ireland! I intend to transform our family camp at Tinmouth Pond (where I currently reside in the summer) into a year round facility where I can spend my retirement. I am hoping someday to return to the classroom, but administration hasn't burned me out totally yet. Thanks for taking the time to catch up on my life works. Don't hesitate to contact me, I love to hear from old friends.
