Linda's Story

My Story... It's hard to sum up 30 years of your life in just a few paragraphs, but here are the highlights. After graduation I ended up in the photography business working full time. This was not the field I went to school for, but I stayed there for over 13 years. I really enjoyed it, and eventually was asked to shoot for several car magazines. I guess that was my 15 minutes of fame. Unfortunately due to a corporate wide reorganization, I was let go. After a couple years and several other jobs, I ended up working in the main office of one of the local banks, Standard Federal. I was in the Savings Bond area for 7 years, and when the department was closed, transferred to Residential Construction Lending. That lasted for 4 years and due to our declining economy in the housing industry here, and several corporate mergers, I am once again a housewife. I'm not sure what path I will take next, but I'm leaning towards working with animals. Four years after graduation I met the love of my life. We dated for a few years and were married. This year we will celebrate our 23 anniversary. Our life is anything but conventional. We have no children ( 2 legged that is ) but our life is very full. We both enjoy the underwater relm so in '87, we became certified scuba divers. We have done some really amazing dives in our life so far. Once again with a camera in my hand, over the side I go. With countless dives in the Florida Keys, some of the other dives we've done are, a Shark Dive off Grand Bahama Island, Sting Ray City off of Grand Cayman, Manta Ray night dive in Kona, Hawaii, and most reciently a snorkel trip to swim with Whale Sharks and Manta Rays in Mexico off of the Yucatan Penninsula. We will be visiting the Georgia Aquarium in August and will be snorkeling with their whale sharks "in" the aquarium. After that, our next experience will be to snorkel/dive with Humpback Whales in Salt Cay. We are both very interested in wildlife, and are involved in several wildlife programs. I love Humpback Whales, and my husband does Sea Turtle rescue and research. For the past 7 years I have been fortunate enough to go to Maui for a couple weeks during whale season. I have developed a very close friendship with the manager of ...Expand for more
"Pacific Whale Foundation" and have gained enough knowledge on the whales that I usually spend my whole trip on their boats ( with my camera! ) as a volunteer Naturalist. I have also done a week long trip on a 24' research boat with the Whale Center of New England in Glouster. It's an awesome experience to see a 45' long whale leap completely out of the water right next to your 24' boat!!! When I'm home, in my spare time I help out my best friend who is the owner of "Serenity Animal Hospital" as a wildlife rehabber. We are licenced for small mammals, and have done more orphaned squirrels, and baby raccoons than I can count. It's tremendous amount of work, but these tiny animals are so intelligent and loving. Once again not wanting to be "normal"as far as pets, we started out with a large salt water fish tank, which we still have today. Our children have all been four legged with fur, and tails. On one of our first trips to Florida, I fell in love with Ferrets, and brought 2 home. This was long before they were legal here, so that presented all sorts of obsticles. Over the course of 13 years, we had 7. Our next pet was a Black Tailed Prairie Dog, who we called Dusty. Dusty was a great pet who was with us for 8 years. Dusty occasionally had company by the means of "house pet" squirrels. We've had 4 of those as well. One of my hobbies is "Stained Glass". I'm self taught, and have done 10 windows ( 3 of which are in our home ) as well as all sorts of sun catchers. I've even attempted some 3 dimensional work. One was an exact recreation of our cabin up north for my dad. I currently have a 3 sectioned curio that I'm working on. I haven't been very dilligent with it because it's quite complicated and requires a lot of concentration. Usually there are too many animals that need me first. We love to vacation where it's warm, with our favorite place being Maui. On our last 2 trips we found a great book that told how to find all the scenic off the beaten path places, so we've basically climbed all over Maui. We found some really great sights. Hopefully one day we can move there permanately. I'm looking forward to connecting with some of my old friends and catching up on what's been going on in their lives as well.
