Linda's Story
I got married in 1974, he was in the Navy so I lived for a while in Jacksonville Florida. I became a mother a year later in 1975. We came back to Kentucky and I have been here ever since. I Became a widow a few years ago. Then something very interesting happened. I married my high school sweetheart last year! We found each other through Facebook of all things. I was a widow, he was a widower. We talked on face book, then began texting and phone conversation, and decided to have dinner, the rest as they say is history. We found that the old flame flared up again and we decided to get married. I never expected that I would marry again after I lost my Gordon, but the universe had other ideas.
I have a daughter and grand daughter hat I am so proud of, they are beautiful, smart and talented.
I have worked for the Jefferson County Public Schools System since 1980. I Began as a tutor, went back to school and became a kindergarten teacher and then moved up to be a district Resource Teacher. I will be retiring as of the last day of school, May 27, 2016, and I look forward to traveling more, puttering, and making trips to Wisconsin to see my daughter, son in law and grand daughter.
I have been a member of the JCPS PrePare Crises Response Team for the past 3 years and will miss being a part of this valuable team. I also have been a program and district Professional Development Trainer and will miss providing this service to teaching staff, but I plan to work on getting certified as a state trainer so that I can occasionally provide training on a contract level for various agencies around the state.
I have an adorable Yorkie named Belle.
I am a Disney Vacation Club member and l...Expand for more
ove going each year to the house of the mouse.
I enjoy going dancing, and for the last two years perform karaoke at least once a week! Who knew I would find my voice when I hit 60, lol! I must be decent because I managed to win a karaoke contest earlier this year.
Speaking of music, my daughter, and then my grand daughter, both played the same flute that I played when I was a band of blue member, yup that flute was played by three generations!
I ave experienced various tragedies in my lifetime, as have we all I am sure, but I choose not to dwell on these and instead try to find the blessings and joy in the world. One big blessing has been all of the little children that I have been privileged to teach over the years. I have been able to touch the future and I feel blessed for that.
I enjoy fishing, reading, listening to music, surfing the Internet and learning new arts and crafts. I used to be a cake decorator, a competitive baker and contest cook off winner, I have tried my hand at all sorts of interests over the years including some serious work in photography.
I am a key volunteer in the Kentucky Air National Guard Family Readiness group and love giving back to the active service personnel as well as veterans and families. This opportunity has allowed me the ability and privilege of meeting some of the best of the best each year during Thunder Over LouisvilleWeekend. I am in awe of those beautiful machines and the pilots and crew who man them!
I am looking forward to keeping active in retirement as I am a member of an education advocacy group and look forward to discussing issues in education with the legislators in Frankfort each year.
Well, that is about it I guess.
