Linda's Story

Life I transferred from SUNY Albany to UConn Storrs to be with my now spouse of 27 years, Jacque Francois. I received my undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Connecticut in 1979 and my Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Connecticut in 1982. We moved to Bethany CT in 1984, a small New England town where everyone knows everyone and the voter turnout is the best in the state (because we don't want the other guy to get in!). We have two children, Ben 16 and Chris, 11, a german shepherd "Tigger", 2 cats and a horse, a big vegetable garden and a small fiishing boat on the sound (that is, we have far too many things we love and no time to do them!). I have been in a small 4 partner general civil law practice law firm for 20+ years. I particularly concentrate on property law and am one of only a handful of attorneys in Connecticut who specialize in Land Conservation Law. (It's one of the few ways a lawyer can get to heaven and it beats doing divorces!). I have worked with individuals, land trusts, and municipalities on land protection transactions throughout Connecticut. I have also put this knowledge to good use in my town by serving as Pr...Expand for more
esident of the Bethany Land Trust for 11 years . I received the 2003 Secretary of State’s Public Service Award (along with 10 million others),the 1998 Bethany Conservationist of the Year Award and the 2005 Bethany Citizen of the Year Award (I looked kind of like the deer in the headlights). I have been an officer and/or director of the Bethany Horsemen, Inc. riding organization for 18 years. I am a member of the Advisory Committee for Bethany Boy Scout Troop 59 and teach merit badges such as Citizenship in the World and Citizenship in the Nation. I often drive my horse and carriage around the block. My horse (coincidentally) was the Connecticut Farm Bureau’s 2003 Equine Citizen of the Year for his long service to the community in providing (with his owner) rides and demonstrations to the public at the annual Bethany Horsemen handicapped events, and a variety of town events(as well as for his varied life in going from a racing trotter to a backyard buddy and occasional equine movie actor (Amistad, Kate & Leopold, Time Machine). One of the most fun things I have ever done was to "run away from home" (not really) and join the movies with my horse for a few weeks.
