Linda's Story
New Retired Life 1/2014
Where has time gone. Never thought I would be approaching 67 in a month. I guess you just do not think of those things in your youth. Believe me, I am thinking now. Mom passed at 92 in 2011. Is that a good way to judge my demise??? Do not think I will reach 92. I have many more health issues compared to her.
It basically is my joint/cartilage structure. Dad had both his knees replaced by the time he was 70. I had my right shoulder completely replaced last April, 2013. It is working great. Problem is the other shoulder will need to be done, as-well-as both my knees. Good old arthritis. It has chosen to attack me fiercely. The sad part is that so many of the things I do with my grand babies is active.
I took the 2 younger Carey kids zip lining last summer. We all enjoyed a Hallow Weekend Saturday in September and looked forward to many other outdoor activities. We have been horse back riding, snow tubing and indoor water parking. I did manage a 30 minute session of laser tag 2 weeks ago. Did not climb the stairs too much.
I have been living single for 11 years now and it is great. Had Mom for five years and it had many ups and downs. I am very glad I was able to keep her. It was great for my grandchildren to get to know her. Mom was not the Mom I knew, but they got to know the new old Mom (alias GG).

n CA in the fall and have a week planned to FL and one to AZ this spring. I slid into retirement without issue. When school was getting ready to start last August I was somewhat worried. No problem. Took the kids to "The Field of Dreams" drive-in movie the Sunday before school started and never looked back. It was so hot the first weeks of school. Upstairs at Columbian it was in the 100's. Sure glad I was not there.
I am living in the house my ex-husband and I built in 1975. There are two acres of ground to care for and the house is big and starting to need things. That is what I basically have been doing. Some things were left go too when I was caring for Mother. Love to do those kind of things only now my body is not cooperating. Getting on ladders and reaching up are an issue.
The four close grandchildren love it here and I have beds for all of them to sleep. We have camp fires in the yard and walks in the woods behind the house. Still have the four seat swing set from their Mother's childhood. I do not think I will move soon. That is if I do not get any worse physically. Would hate to think about moving after living here for 35 years.
I have rambled enough. Might be attending some class reunions, of my students, this summer. Maybe I will see you then. Definitely hope to attend West Tech's 50th next year.
Have a great new year 2014.
