Linda's Story
I worked some for the Akron Public Schools. I went on Disability. Now I work part time for Mental Health America in a Consumer Library which I am the office manager. I am active with the local NAMI chapter as well as serving on the NAMI OHIO Board and being the Consumer Council Rep. for NAMI OHIO at the National NAMI Board. I help consumers who have mental illness and their families with any problems that they might have within the whole state of Oh. I don't get paid for that. I really enjoy helping people. I have two wonderful kids. One son, who just turned 30 at Christmas. He has blessed me with two wonderful grandsons. My daughter is teaching. She also is a grad. from Coventry High. She never went to a inter-city school but her dream was to teach at the poorest inter-city she could ever get into. She really wanted to make a difference in the lives of high school students. Once she got out of Kent State she got her dream fullfilled. She landed a job with East Cleveland Schools. She has been teaching there for several years now. Her students love her. hey told her that they would protect her from all the harm around the school, both inside and outside. She teaches English. She is the only female teacher that high has. She loves her job. The students really love her. She loves her students. She has taken her students to several funerals of some of the students who have died because of gang related shootings outside of the school in the parking lot. Nikki said that was the hardest part of her job. She wants to stay with that job as long as they will let her. I think that I have done a wonder job raising my kids with God's help by myself since their father died when Nikki was 2 months when he died. My mother also helped me. I will miss her. She just died. I get to work with the Senators and Congressmen in Washington DC a lot. I love that part of my job. I love helping people. I always did. I take part in a lot of teleconference calls. I have a wonderful dog named kooler. I speak all over the United States. I love life more than ever. I hope we have another reunion soon. I would love to see everyone again.
