Linda's Story

lindasfoleyatyahoo.com After graduation in 59 I went on to Stockton Jr College with my best buds....Joan Collins, Kimi, and others. We hung out together. Then went to San Jose state College and finally graduated in 1964. I taught at Sunnyvale, Special Education, self-contained classes. Then got married, moved to Alameda, had a daughter. Moved to Honolulu where my hisband taught at Chaminade College. My son was born there. Discovered we really could not afford Honolulu, would not be able to travel to California to visit family often, etc., and after much back-and-forth, we returned to California. Lived in South San Francisco, then on to Salem, Oregon where he again was teaching at a small college in Mt. Saint Angel. A nice small quiet rural community. loved the fresh from the fields corn! Then on to Santa Fe for 4 years where i learned to love green chile cheesburgers. YUM! Taught at a federally-funded Model City program for preschool kids with special needs, as we refer to it nowadays. Husband taught at College of Santa fe. Then to Fort Worth Texas and we have been here since. I am currently separated from my husband with a divorce pending. my choice. (Divorce became final in 2011) I got involved in Democratic Party politics and social justice issues for real in 1984 and have been doing it ever since. Worked on lots of political campaigns, went to 2004 Dem National Convention in Boston as Kucinich volunteer, also worked on local Obama campaign in 2008. WILD! I taught for FWISD until about 1992, took a long break. I worked for an activist friend who got elected to the Texas State Legislature for several years.Spent August 2005 with Cindy Sheehan in Crawford TEXAS. Must say it was the pinnacle of my political and activist work. I was at the 35th Edis...Expand for more
on reunion with my brother Cecil, who has since passed away. Sisters DOLORES, Frankie and Lisa still live in Stockton and I visit occasionally. It is a very HOT summer here in Fort Worth. I went back to teaching (still special education)in 2006 when i decided to end my marriage. We just finished summer school and I have time off to do chores around the house, rest, read email, etc. I am on facebook but i don't do much with that but read it when others send me messages. Eventually I will figure out how to post a picture here. (If you find me on FB, check out my photo albums on Crawford). A frew years ago i was able to meet Maxine Hong Kiston when she came to Dallas for a writers appearance. It was great to make that connection after all these years, and i have read her books. She always was a good writer. Hope to see you all at the 50th reunion. My son has been a police officer for Fort Worth and also other small communities in the area. My daughter is currently a waitress at a local restaurant. She has been a restaurant manager in the past. I have 5 grandchildren (my son adopted a boy, now age 8) and one great-grandson age 2-1/2, James. I babysit him several days a week and we have great fun together.I will soon be moving from west Fort Worth to an apartment closer to Grapevine, to be closer to my grandkids and reduce my driving. I have 400 books that I need to finish reading so I can clear my shelves! I used to do a lot of sewing., but not much anymore. I make simple bracelets for my own use. I am retiring myself from political activity. Find me on Facebook. Most of my FB friends are politically active, veterans (IVAW, VFP) and well-informed. Eventually I will take a trip to Paris, but having James around has put that on the back burner for a while.
