Linda's Story

I looked in the Yearbook and was very surprised at how almost "scary" I looked in the photo! I did go ahead and use that Yearbook picture for my "then" picture, but wish I had a nicer one available. Oh well....I guess it was the way I wore eyeliner back then and colored my hair dark. Even though I was sort of a "hippie chick", for some reason I guess I looked more "goth" at times... These days I enjoy gardening and creating a habitat for birds and really find so much joy in the little things like flowers, stars, watching the birds bathe in the birdbath. I had a jewelry business for 14 years and then took a break from that for almost 10 years, kinda semi-retired....I do plan on opening a little store with antiques, jewelry and collectibles in the small mountain community I live in now. I often go to Mt. Shasta which is fairly closeby and once in a while make it to Redding. My most enjoyable memories at San Marin High School were the art classes. I especially enjoyed the ceramics class and remember a field trip to the beach where we did "raku" style glazing and firing as well as sand candles. That got me into candle-making at home and I got pretty creative with that, mixing interesting color combinations. I also remember another art class where we did linoleum-block printing, batik and tie-dying as well as wood sculpture. I also remember a jewelry-making class where I worked with abalone shells and silver, making earrings and necklaces. We learned how to solder, anneal, drill, use a fine jeweler's saw, buffing, etc. I was able to take a lot of art classes in my senior year as I had ...Expand for more
already gotten enough credits in some summer classes I took previous to that. One of the classes was Psychology and we had a field trip to see the movie "2001 A Space Odyssey", some of us took LSD and that was quite an experience, especially in that part of the movie with the "Stargate". Also the end was kind of a "mind blower", tryin to figure out what was going on there. Anybody out there happen to participate in that field trip to see that movie with the summer school Psychology class? The reason I went to summer school was to take Drivers' Ed and I figured while I was at it I might as well take another class and get some extra credit. What happened is that I was actually able to graduate half a year early and because of that, I really didn't get to participate in the June graduation or say goodbye to people. Of course I did stay in touch with some close friends until I took off to Southern Oregon to live in the mountains with some people I knew up there. Eventually I moved to Portland, later I moved to San Francisco and eventually I even went and lived in Japan for three years. I have lived in New York as well, but always come back to California. I lived in Mill Valley, Sausalito and later in Sonoma County. Now I live so far north, sometimes it doesn't even seem like California! I sure wish I could locate some friends I remember from San Marin, like Debbie Vasco, Vanessa Triscell, Carole Childs and Maggie "of Inverness". I also used to hang out with the "Water Brothers"..... Well, it's been fun walking down memory lane, feel free to contact me through this site, ^_^ Linda
