Linda's Story
School
Since graduating from High School, I have married Roger Russell (1956 graduate). I did not start college until our second daughter was born in 1962. It took me 11 years, going to night school, to finally graduate in 1974 from Ohio Universtity with a degree in Education. During that time, we had our third daughter. In 1968, I started teaching in the Maysville School District where I taught for the next 27 years in the elementary school. Roger was director of the Avondale Children's Home from 1970-1974 so we juggled running the home, teaching school and taking care of our family at the same time. He was teaching at the high school during this period of time, also. We both retired in 1995. Since then we have found ourselves roaming around the country and have taken several cruises. We sold our home in Broadvue Acres, Zanesville and have bought three manufactured homes! We spend the summer on the St. Lawrence River in Cape Vincent, NY. Spring and Fall finds us in Zanesville. This is the time to catch up on family affairs and activities. In the winter, we are in Se...Expand for more
bring, Florida enjoying the sunshine.
We have six grandchildren....four girls and 2 boys. The oldest is 29 and the youngest is 16.
Workplace
I taught in the Maysville School District for 27 years. I spent 17 years at Newton and 10 years at South Zanesville Elementary teaching 4th grade. It was a great career for me while my husband and I raised three daughters. I was home with the girls during the summer and, of course, snowdays!
Roger was director of the Avondale Children's Home from 1970-1974. We spent a lot of time becoming involed with the 40 boys and girls that spent time there. It was a wonderful experience for our family.....stressful at times but never the less, very worthwhile.
Our 50th Anniversary was April 5, 2008. We celebrated by taking our children, grandchildren and their spouses on a Caribbean Cruise. There were 16 of us all together. We had a wonderful time. It was great to be able to spend so much time with them. Our children live in three different locations so it is now diffucult to get everyone together for periods of time. Great Memories!
