Linda's Story
Life
After trying marriage and the single life I decided it best to focus on raising my two children. In 1988 I packed up my children and moved to Washington State to seek a family friendly and peaceful environment. Washington is an incredible place and I highly recommend it to anyone, for living or visiting.
As my children got older I realized it was time to get to know myself. As I did that I found several issues that I needed to address. In itself that took several years! Once I was happy within I registered on many online dating websites, hoping to find people in my area to socialize with.
Instead I met a man in England! After nine months of writing and talking over the phone he came to America and we were married within 3mos.
Kevin and I stayed in America long enough to get his permanent residency sorted, moved to England so that I could obtain my residency status and are now back in Olympia, Washington. As our children, families and friends are in different countries we want the option of living and working where ever we want, when ever we want.
I have a son who was born in 1976 (what an education that was!) and a daughter born in 1983
My son Ed [yes Ed Marson's son] lives in Washington and loves it. He works for a chainlink fencing company and lives with his fiancee Krissi. Most of the their spare time used to be spent playing sports, mostly softball. While they still spend their spare time the same way, there is very little of it now. Edward Jack Marson III was born on May 23, 2006. And now baby number 2 is soon to be here.
My daughter Kristina lived with us in England for six months in 2004 and moved back in Washington State after a year in Belmont California. She attended University of Washington-Tacoma Campus and is now working for BigBrotherBigSister, wanting to help 'at risk' children and youth improve their futures.
And I now have 3 additional children...they came with the marriage and have these unusual accents, unlike my first two children :o) Although after living in England for nearly 4yrs they have become less unusual.
My sister Lisa lives in Belmont where she is raising two wonderful little boys, Max and Gabe.
Both of my brothers married and have children.
Ed Marson Sr [as most of you will remember as my high school sweetheart] has a total of 4 son's and is happily living in Daly City with his wife and their young son.
There is always more to say, but there would never be enough room here. So I will end this w...Expand for more
ith a 'HELLO' to anyone and everyone that remembers me and a hope that you are all happy in your lives!
Cheers for now, Linda
School
Having left school shortly before graduation to give birth to my son, I went back to school when I was in my early thirties. After 3mos I had my high school diploma. I must say that gave me an incredible feeling of pride...to finally close that door on my life. And my children were very proud of me, not to mention that it encouraged them to stay in school to achieve the same.
College
After obtaining my high school diploma, I then went back and took some college courses in internet technology, web design and business relations. My plan had been to obtain a certificate of proficiency in computer technology, but that all got put aside when I met my husband :o)
Eventually I will get back on that track, but for now other things are more important.
Workplace
I have done many different types of work, but for the most part they all involved customer service. My first full time job was as a medical claims adjustor for an insurance company. I have since worked as a bank teller, a legal assistant, ran the laundry room at a convalescent home and been a cashier at Fred Meyers.
My longest running job [just under 10years] was in the licensing division for the Department of Fish and Wildlife in Washington State.
Once settled in England I worked through a temp agency and later took a job with a company called Telewest (now Virgin Media), England's version of Comcast. I answered phones in a call 'centre' and you would not believe how many people thought they had called America...since I have such a strange 'accent'...imagine that, we have accents! But call stats and 'sexy words' came before quality customer service. I was not allowed to take ownership for anything....I was miserable not being able to resolve problems for customers.
After 18mos I accepted a job offer with Sandvik Coromant UK. They have the same belief of quality customer service that I have.....and no stats, no scripts, no passing the buck. I still got the same comments about America and my accent...I can always tell by the pause on the other end that someone is confused!
And in 2007 Kevin and I returned to America. We bought a motorhome and spent a few months working in state parks. Kevin then accepted a job offer to manage a mobile home park and we count ourselves very lucky...as his employers are such great people.
