Linda's Story

Life Some of you will remember me as Linda S. Johnson who graduated in 1970 from OCCHS. As of November 13, 1971 I became Linda S. Wilson and have been married to my husband, Billy for the past 45 years. Sadly, we have been living separate lives for over 5 years now but remain married because we are still best friends and I am his caregiver. We have two very special children, Shane, age 42 who a maintenance technician at Noranda in New Madrid, MO and Angela, age 41, who is a Doctors Assistant at Northwest Correctional Complex and is currently working on her nursing degree. Our children have blessed us with (8) eight of the greatest grandchildren. They are April (25) Derek (25) Tyler (21) Destiny (19 and is due to deliver twin baby girls in Jan, 2016), Lane (18), Chelsea (19), Madison Paige age (13), and our youngest grandchild is Hannah who is age (9). The first 22+ years of my life were spent in the Human Resource Management field (of which you can learn more about in my Work Bio) and another 18 years were spent the in the Legal Field as a Legal Assistant and Office Mgr for the Public Defenders Office. I am now retired as if August 21, 2015. I have found my life to be rewarding from being a wife, mother, and grandmother to having a fulltime career that allowed me to travel to many places and become friends with those who would otherwise be strangers. When I graduated in 1970 my goal was to work for the FBI in Washington, DC. I had an apartment set up and a job to go to, but life didn't work out that way, so I now find myself working for the District Public Defender for the State of TN, County of Dyer, in which I work with organizations such as the TBI, FBI and local law enforcement. I guess you could say I've come "full circle" as to my goals set some 30 plus years ago even though I'm not working directly with the FBI. College If one would ask me what I would do over in my life if given the opportunity, I would say "follow through on higher education". I have attended Dyersburg State Community College, taking many courses that helped me in my career such as Supervision, Business Management, Computer Techonology, Bookkeeping, Paralegal studies, etc. I have even taught a class at Dyersburg State in Advertising, but I never obtained a degree. My career life was fulfilled while working in Human Resource Management and some might say my homelife was one out of a textbook, but if I had...Expand for more
it all to do over again, I would have chosen to further my higher level education and then move on to the other aspects of my life. Workplace Within (2) two weeks after graduation, I was off to Dyersburg, TN were I began working as a Long Distance Operator for Bell South. However, the hours were not great, (especially for a young adult), so within 3 years or so I became involved in the field of Human Resource Management. I spent 10 years at the local Kmart as the Human Resource/Training Manager and from that point furthered my career by hiring on with companies such as Doubleday and Penguin USA (both book distribution) as Director of Human Resources, US NEWS and World Report as field office Human Resource Administrator and Cooper Industries/Moog Auto Distribution Center as Manager of HR. After giving 22+ years service to the HR field (because of family health issues), I made the decision to retire from HR and move into an area of work that allowed a more flexible work schedule. In 1996, I started working as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant for The Palmer Law Firm in Dyersburg, and worked fulltime as Office Manager to the State Legal office of the District Public Defender's. My career has been inspirational and filled with fun and travel to places such as the great state of New York, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Atlanta, Virginia, Florida and Missouri. I am so thankful to the many people that placed their trust in me as their co-associate, leader, counselor, and friend throughout my career. My plans were to retire at age 65 but LIFE stepped in and changed that to age 63!!! I plan to travel, read, garden, and visit with family and friends. If I won $100 million, I'd give $6 million of it to my children & grandchildren, then spend the rest on a new home, a percentage to true friends and some family members and a larger percentage to charities that are near and dear to my heart. I would love to build a home for the homeless in a number of different locations and build an activity center that's safe and fun for ages 13 - 21. In 10 years, I hope to be traveling to Hawaii, Paris, Bahamas, Mexico, France, Spain and Italy. I'm going to get there by working hard and saving for that perfect occasion. I plan to either fly or cruise to the island of Hawaii and probably fly to the other faraway locations.. As of this date (Oct 29,2015), I have already cruised to the Bahamas and Mexico and LOVED IT!!!!
