Life After leaving Rochester High in 1974, I moved to Royal Oak, finished my senior year and then began college at Oakland University. During my sophomore year, I got a big career break after working as a waitress at the Midtown Cafe in Birmingham. One of my regulars worked for Warner Bros. Records and recomended me for a new hire position. As I hit my 20th birthday, hanging out professionally with successful rock stars and getting paid for it I felt incredibly fortunate....then, began to explore the world in all its savory moods. Travel, art, limosines, famous people...a long way from growing up across from Avon Park. Soon, my travel wanderlust was born. I'd landed the job with Warner Records in Southfield after an independent semester at college, by writing a paper exploring the nature of the music business which i shared with my favorite "Midtown" customer...who then helped me secure an interview. Three weeks later I got the job. During those early years, I had many chances to hang out with cool, creative and (more than a few) crazy rock stars. Some, like U2, were just beginning their careers. Most of us were as green as the Irish grass. It was an awesome time to be young, attractive and paid a salary just to be immersed in music. I discovered early on that music was the universal language of all cultures. A few years later I went to England to visit musician Peter Gabriel who I was dating at the time.
