Linda's Story
Life
In many ways, life has come full-circle in the last almost-20 years. I live in the suburbs. I still go to school every day, although now it's to drop off my children. I run regularly with a team of people. And I still believe everything and everyone has potential for greatness.
But now instead of long harsh winters, I have mild California weather. Instead of the frenzy of school and extracurriculars I have the frenzy of two boys amassing Legos, sword fighting, building ships, mess-making and general rabble-rousing.
Though I'm busy with the family and work part-time as an engineer, I still enjoy music whenever possible. I am teaching myself bass guitar and practice vocal harmonies with my husband. There's a rush of rejuvenation when I hit a creative groove.
If you are reading this you have probably influenced my life in some way, and for that I am grateful. God bless you. Feel free to mail me at linc at stanfordalumni dot org (real email address formats are filtered by classmates.com).

College
Stanford is a great place to go to school. I can't even begin to say. It is hard not to thrive on the friendly, nurturing and intellectually stimulating environment that just beckons you to explore. I finished my undergraduate years with a BS (that doesn't stand for what you think it does) in Electrical Engineering in 1992. College was so fun I wasn't willing to exit academia. So the next year I completed a masters degree in Industrial Engineering at the same time as doing a teaching fellowship of an Advanced Digital...Expand for more
Design class.
It's still early to hope my two sons make into into the Clases 2019 and 2020, but they are making strides. I donate money every year hoping that it will make a slim difference during the admission process when they apply.

Workplace
I graduated during a recession in 1993. Fortunately, companies were still interviewing at my alma mater. I got my first job at Intel Corp. I found my way into the field of Networking and was active in the "ATM Forum", which is completely unrelated to Automatic Teller Machines.
During the dot com bubble I switched jobs to Sun Microsystems. There I got a lot of design experience, managerial experience, and filed about 9 patents. Best of all, I got to travel the world participating in the IEEE meetings to standardize Gigabit Ethernet. If you are wondering what IEEE stands for, it is the sound you make when you go to these meetings. Seriously though, it was satisfying to collaborate with the best in the industry and directly contribute to the creation of two chapters of the standard.
In 1999 I joined Cisco Systems and I have been there since. The CEO awarded me the "Pioneer Award for Innovation" in 2003. Another patent got issued this year. After my second son was born I started working 3 days a week. The four-day weekends every week have been a great help to keeping work and life balanced. I am a Technical Leader there currently and find that is a good fit for me.
