Linda Myers:  

Life I graduated in 1969 from MHS. Graduated from Lake Erie College w/majors in Psych and Soc. Received my Masters Degree from KSU in Applied (Clinical) Sociology. I'm a therapist in private practice and I work with adjudicated youth, using equine assisted techniques as well as more traditional forms of therapy at our farm, Stone Fox Farm. I also run day-long team development seminars for businesses and groups while working with the horses. My horses and I have traveled back and forth to OSU to teach classes to psych graduate students and those in veterinarian (did I spell that right?)science about the finer points of equine assisted growth and learning. I've taken horses into school buildings to teach students leadership and decision making skills. Walking a 1200 lb horse down a school hallway and into the courtyard tends to generate excitement and enthusiasm. We're guests at conferences and we host lots of workshops here. These horses are phenomenal teachers and love people. I was fortunate enough to have been able to develop a program for the juvenile court in Geauga County that currently boasts one of the lowest recidivism rates in the State of Ohio. In other words - fewer of my clients go back to court than w/any other program in the State and I credit the horses to making that difference. (That recidivism rate varies from quarter to quarter. Some quarters are better than others.) Experiential, action-based therapies ARE the way to go with adolescents. Especially w/the hard to reach adolescent who has been in every other program in the county and is 'treatment-wise'. It's turned into an award winning program, we're noted in 3 books (who ever would have thought?) and I'm now teaching others to do the same.
