Linda's Story

Life How does one begin to describe 38 years of their life in 4,000 characters since high school? After college I took off for the 'friendly skies of United Airline's where I was employed as a flight attendant for 31 years. I've been married to the same wonderful person (West Linn) for 32 years. I retired from UAL 3 years ago (2003). We moved from San Francisco where we lived for 29 years to our vacation house in Sun Valley, Idaho. We never had children. After moving to SV we immediately adopted a shelter dog who has been our constant companion on our boat, traveling, hiking, running and just exploring life. Even though we didn't have children I have only dressed her up once....well.......maybe more than once. She looks so cute in her halloween outfit! Oh dear...people who don't have children! I couldn't begin to tell everyone how fullfilled and blessed my life has been. To find 'purpose' in life is a great thing. Sometimes I go out and find a purpose and sometimes that purpose is chosen for me. After exploring the world through my career (China, Egypt, Africa, all of Europe, Turkey....well just about everywhere) I am so happy to stay home and do what normal people do. What do normal people do? I started volunteering for our local animal shelter 5 years ago and that ...Expand for more
has brought me much joy. Last year I went to Katrina to rescue animals after the floods. If you don't think one little person can make a difference just go out and do something like that. Penny Baker (remember my side kick, some of you) is still my 'best friend'. She still lives in Portland. We knew each others Mothers. How wonderful is that history?? Our friends reflect who we are. I think the older you get the more you reflect on your past. How did I get here? How did that past mold who I am today? Who were the people who truly changed you forever? My husband and I spent years trying to be 'successful', although when your success looks good to the world but not to your heart it isn't success at all. We all need to embrace our own uniqueness and live the life that is undeniably our own. We left the big city life behind and all that it entailed. Our life is much simpler now. Our life now is effortless perfection. We live by simple rules: take care of yourself, your soul, your family, give back, learn something new and just enjoy the simple things in life. I would love to hear how everyone is spending their 'Golden years' Oh that sounds like something our parents would say.....I would love to hear how everyone is spending their 'bonus years', Linda Closner (Perez)
