Linda's Story

Life Hello! This is where my life has gone, while I was busy making other plans. The years flew by so quickly I wish I could remember everything. I think there may be other reasons that I can't remember everything, but I don't remember!! After I graduated I went to the University of Maryland. My brother, Kenn and I had an apartment in Dums corner (in Riverdale). I went for one year, dropped out and came back for another year. Then I started at the community college in Largo. That lasted one semester. I moved to springfield with a girlfriend I met at work, (an insurance company downtown). Then moved home again. Randy Hart, John Gott, Bruce Miller and a few others maybe John McHale sure got tried of moving my stuff around. In 1977 my brother and best bud died. I moved to Portabello apts I think it was on Livingston Rd. I got a job at the Postal Service in Merrifield, VA. So I moved to Manassas VA. I met my kindred spirit, Bob Goldsmith we lived together and bought a house in Manassas. WE were married in 1977. Eddie Wood was the best man, and I wanted Linda Sheriff to be my maid of honor, but I felt guilty so I asked my sister. What a mistake!! Bob worked at Prince William Hospital and I stayed at the Post Office. Bob had a son from a previous marriage, Sam he was 2 yrs old and we had fun. We got to visit with him every other weekend. In 1982 I had our first son Dallas (named after his grandfather) and in 1986 has our second son, Justin. We were so happy for a long time. Bob got promoted to Electrical supervisor and I to a confidential secretary at Merrifiled. Life was great in 1992 I was appointed Postermaster of a small village in Loudoun County called Aldie, VA. I really loved it there, but in 1995 Bob was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The fun stopped there. He d...Expand for more
ied in 1997. I kept working because the kids we still young (8 and 11) I worked until 2005. I had 28 yrs in civil service and they offered an early out, I was ready to go and I did. I love retirement and was able to spend some good time helping my parents and finally enjoying life alittle more. I love traevling so thats' what I did next. Went to Domincan Republic, went on a cruise to Grand Bahamas and Caymen Islands. Then went to Casa Maya, Mexico where I saw pyriamids. Then last winter we went to Costa Rica and I fell in love with that place. Would love to have a condo there. I was traveling with 3 girlfriends and we have had a great time. Then my son Justin and I took a road trip to key west and loved that place too. Lat summer a friend an I and 2 kids wnet to Ft Lauderdale, FL. I had been there before on postmaster conventions but I really love it. I just got back from Atlantic City where I lost my shirt. Stayed at Trump Plaza and really had fun losing all my money. My Dad died in December 2007, and it broke my heart. Janice Fenn (Reuter) and Randy and Susan (Burton Hart) came and I really appreciated the support. It was a military service at Quantico and was very touching. My dad was 85. I recently got a parttime job so I could continue traveling. It gets expensive.. MY stepson Sam, now 32 is finally finishing college ant Temple University in Philadelphia. Dallas, now 25 works at Falkland Gallery in Gainesville, he is a picture framer. I think I have convinced him that he has to get an education somewhere. We are thinking of the Art Institute in Arlington, VA. Justin works parttime and goes to Lord Fairfax community college in Warrenton. That is the end of my story!!!!! Linda Ray Goldsmith
