Linda's Story
Life
I attended COP in Stockton for 2 years. Changed my plans about becoming a lab technician when I flunked Chemistry. Summer of '60 became engaged to Âthe boy next doorÂ, Jim Botto. Fall of '61 I transferred to CCAC to pursue a career as a medical illustrator. Jim joined the Air Force after things got Âhot when the Berlin Wall went up. I dropped out of CCAC and married Jim in April '62 when he came home on leave. Finishing up his military hitch, we lived in Wichita Falls, Texas and Plattsberg, NY during the Cuban Crisis, the death of JFK, and beginnings of the Vietnam War. My career as Âstay at home mom began when we gave birth to two daughters. After Jim was discharged, we move back the California and bought a new home in Concord. In '68 our third daughter was born. We lived in Concord for twenty years as Jim worked his way up the ladder in the car business. Our house filled up with kids, pets, and Âstray friends and relatives who needed a temporary home. Âstrays who moved in with us in 1980 was an 11 year old nephew. His Âstay became permanent after my sister passed away in 1985. He and our youngest daughter graduated from Concord High together and left home for college in 1986 as the older girls did earlier. Empty house at last? NOT!! Another ÂstrayÂ, my mother, moved in after my father passed away. 14 years later she is still with us and now needs constant care because she is 96 years young. In '91 Jim took a position as a Automotive Management Consultant traveling all over the US. One of his clients in Hawaii, Servco Pacific Inc, made him an offer we couldnÂt refuse. He started working in Hawaii in '97 and I moved over to Oahu in '98 with Mom and our two dogs after selling the house. I am now a member of Hawaii Watercolor Society and when I retire from caregiving I plan to become a full time artist and sell my paintings. Our family on the Mainland keeps growingÂ
. Our married daughters blessed Jim and I with 10 grandchildren!
