Linda's Story
Life
Right after HS got married & moved to NY and became dairy farmer (with Jerseys, not Holsteins!). 1986 moved back to BC w/cows. 1989 moved back to NY w/o cows. Left husband & moved to Capital District region of NY. Got divorced. Worked at GE for a time (1989-1997), then for ACM, a new small telecommunications company (1997-2006, 1st employee hired). Got re-married (1n 2003 to another Chris K no less!). Also got three kids and a great extended family in the deal. Got laid off (from ACM). Found new job (at I-Centrix, in 2006). Along the way visited France, Switzerland & Geermany (Aug. 2003), St. Thomas (for honeymoon), Sweden (in May 2006 to buy new SAAB wagon & meet my relatives), Las Vegas (multiple times!), San Diego, Chicago , Wash. DC & soon Albuquerque. Bought an exotic sports car in May 2004 (Lotus). Added to the stable in May 2008 (Porsche Carrera). Actually got two other "new" cars in July 2007 - one a car for the daughter to drive (a Stratus) and one (an AWD Volvo) to replace the Scion xA that gave it's life for me when I got t-boned (thanks to the side air bags, I only got a small burn/bruise from the seatbelt).
In Jan. 1995 I lost my father, in 2001 (3 days before Christmas!) I lost my youngest older brother Phill,...Expand for more
in Sept. 2003 (just after getting engaged) I lost my mother, in Nov. 2005 I lost my mother-in-law (Mom to me, we got very close) and then in Oct. 2006 I lost my oldest brother (just 2 days before his grandchild was born).
The two oldest children are now both in college, and the youngest is a junior in HS. Maybe things will slow down a bit now that we only have one with soccer games to go to, and no concerts (at one point all 3 played soccer & 2 were in various bands). Didn't do much traveling this year since my husband spent two weeks this summer in Bolivia on a mission trip. But we did make it to the charity event at the Chicago auto show and we'll go out west in December.
Oldest kid (Jessie, the only girl) graduated from college in May '09, typical story that she couldn't find a good job, is returning to graduate school in fall. Middle son has 2 years engineering college, 2 more to go! Youngest son is graduating HS and then in fall off to culinary college!
Less activities from kids mean more from the various car clubs we're members of - off-roading the H2, tracking the 911 and showing the Esprit. Chris is off on a mission trip again this summer, this time to Peru. Got in a couple of trips out west last summer and again this winter.
