Linda's Story

Linda attended Penn State after graduating from GLRHS. She graduated with a BA in General Arts & Sciences March '68. She lived and worked in NYC for a a number of years, rooming with a high school friend, Gail Faitoute. She worked as a home office underwriter for MONY. Renting a cabin at Stratton Mountain with some HS friends was lots of fun. She met her first husband, Vincent Jestice after skiing one day. She eventually moved to Massachusetts where she married Vince and lived in Acton until Vince's early death from colon cancer. Their daughter, Kama Lynn, was only 2 1/2 months old when Vince passed on. After a few years had passed, her friends introduced her to Steve Thornburg. They were both employed with New England Life at that time, Linda in sales and Steve in management. They moved to Grafton, MA, married, and had their first son, Bradford Steven, who was born in Worcester, MA. A business opportunity was offered to Steve in Houston, TX, so the family moved to Katy, TX for a number of years, where their second son, Austin Douglas, was born. Not long after his birth, an insurance agency in San Jose was offered to Steve, so the family moved to the Almaden area of San Jose for a number of years. Linda continued to sell insurance part-time and supported her kids in their various sports ... their favorite being soccer. Yes, Linda was a true "soccer mom." After another period of time, we decided to move to Yreka, CA in northern California May of 1989 to get out of the city environment. Steve commuted on weekends for about five years, but finally decided that it would make more sense to join the family full-time in Yreka. We have been here since that time, although Linda stopped selling insurance in 1995 and has been a Vocational Technician with the SIskiyou County Office of Education since then ... and loves her job. She is still working and plans to continue to at least age 70. Then she'll see what she wants to do thereafter. Steve retired in 2007 when he was fighting a bout of c...Expand for more
ancer. He has been cancer-free since the chemotherapy, thank the Lord! He is challenged with COPD, but it doesn't prevent him from being active in the community and working out on a daily basis. Linda and Steve are active in a number of activities. Steve currently participates in a barbershop chorus, church worship team and church choir. He is currently serving on the Grand Jury and does odd jobs on the side. He also enjoys woodworking and making rustic furniture. Linda still continues to work full-time, teaches an Adult Sunday School class and leads a women's exercise class a few days weekly. Linda and Steve are both Rotarians. Linda has been serving as secretary of that organization for years. Linda and Steve have both participated in many other activities in the past, serving in a variety of leadership positions. We don't know what the future will hold for us, but life has been good! Our children are doing well. Kama is a physical trainer and aerobics instructor at Sun Oaks Swim & Tennis Club in Redding, CA. Before having her four children, she was a firefighter, working on an engine of 6 years and on a helitac crew for another few years. Her husband, Mitch Hokanson, is a smoke-jumper with the USFS and is a wonderful wood carver during his off-season. Brad is a Para-rescuer in the USAF and his wife, Tashena, is an aerobics instructor at a gym. They have a 1 1/2 year old daughter (Liliana) and are currently based in Tucson, AZ. Austin currently lives in Anderson, CA and works in wood services with a company in Redding, although he hopes to move to Sacramento in the near future. Steve's daughter, Nicole, was recently married and she lives with her husband, John, in the LA area. We don't know what our future holds for us, but life has been good! We are looking forward to attending the GLRHS 50-year Reunion in October 2014 to catch up on the lives of Linda's classmates of yore! It should be lots of fun and hopefully most of our class will decide to attend the Reunion. .
