Rebecca's Story
Life
I've been working for Pinellas County government since June, 1992, more specifically for the IT Department since June, 1999. I've been married since March, 2000 to Mitch Reed, a Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputy. I have a 13 year old daughter, Megan, who I've been told looks identical to me but acts nothing like me (she's a social butterfly - with a major teenage attitude). We all keep very busy working, being members of Bayside Community Church in Safety Harbor, keeping on top of Megan's schooling, and going on vacations as often as possible. I finally received my AA degree in May, 2001; but, fortunately, I haven't had to go back to college because I'm already in an awesome job! In what little spare time I have, I enjoy reading magazines, exercising, country line dancing, golfing, and biking. We also enjoy traveling to Gatlinburg (where we'll retire in 10 years!!), going on cruises, and wherever there are awesome roller coasters and thrill rides. I'm a major adrenaline junkie. My next feat is skydiving and then parasailing or vice versa :-)!
I look forward to seeing everybody in 2002 for our 10 year reunion. Hopefully some of you will remember me, even though I wasn't popular or trendy. Kinda kept to myself and what few friends I did have....
Workplace
Wow! My career has totally surpassed my expectations. My first "job" was during 8th and 9th grade babysitting for neighbors. My first REAL job was in 9th/10th grade working at an italian restaurant in Belleair Bluffs as a waitress/busser. What an awesome job! I loved every minute of it for a year. When that restaurant closed, I went to work at another italian restaurant on the beach. That job sucked and I quit after 3 months. I then started working at Albertsons in B...Expand for more
elleair Bluffs and stayed there around 6 months. Right after I quit Albertsons, I started working at a pest control company and hated it; but, it paid well and I stayed for about 3 months since I was in the work program at school. While working at both Albertsons and the pest control company, I also worked at Checkers on Gulf-to-Bay and loved every minute of that job too! I stayed there a year, leaving a few weeks before graduation from high school. I miss that job :-)
About 3 weeks after graduating high school, I started working as an Office Assistant for Pinellas County Solid Waste in St. Petersburg. I worked there until February 1998 leaving as an Office Specialist. I transferred to Pinellas County General Maintenance in Largo but only stayed there a little over a year.
I then transferred with a promotion to Administrative Support Specialist, this time to Pinellas County Information Technology, in June 1999. Since then, I've been promoted to Programmer Trainee (for one year) and finally to Programmer. My next step is a promotion to Programmer/Analyst, which will happen once I've finished training and programming with the new JAVA Faces language. I thoroughly love my job and definitely can't complain about already being half way to retirement. I've been with the County now for 15 years and, unless legislation changes, I need 15 more before I reach full retirement!
In my current position as a Programmer with Pinellas County Information Technology, I support the County's Criminal Justice Information System and work with numerous agencies such as the Clerk's Office, Courts, State Attorney, Public Defender, all Law Enforcement and Sheriff's departments including the Jail, and the State. I love my job and I'm stickin' with it!
