Lindsey's Story
From Spring Hill High to directly into the Navy. THe USS Reclaimer (ARS-42) QMSN then SN (OPS to Deck) then AN and transfered to the USS Okinawa (LPH-3 V1 Division). From ABH3 to ABH2 at VP-31(Staff) at Moffett Field, Sunnyvale, CA. Nickname "Kansas" because of my first and last names. Various commands and rates from Fleet Combat Training Center, Pacific(Staff) TD2, Point Loma, San Diego, NATTC Memphis/Millington, TN. Tradevsman TD rating Avionics "A" and C7" classes as a TD2 on to Surface Warfare Officers School Command(Staff) at Newport, R.I for ..then on to Fleet ASWTRACEN Norfolk, VA for Ocean Systems Technician (Maintainer) (OTM) "A" School on out to NAVFAC Adak, AK where I managed a promotion from OTM2 to OTM1 and NOPF Ford Island, Oahu, HI...and I only made it to E6 before I took a Medical Discharge (Honorable Discharge) completing my 20 years in the Navy. I returned back to my Home of Permanant Record with no parents, grand-parents alive only a house and 10 acres; all along what I thought was "home." I spent 8 years on the farm, completed a couple Associate of Science Degrees in Electronics (Bio-Medical Technician and MicroComputer Maintenance).
I managed to become a Master Gardener, then gave it up because I (missed) enjoyed working with electronics to much. I had a serius back injury in 1999 and went through surgeries only to find myself with "Failed Back Syndrome" and unable to work...with 100% Socail Security ...Expand for more
Disability Benefits. I managed to get my VA Disability up to 60% and now just messs around doing things I enjoy and trying not to spend to much money doing those things. I had to give up riding motorcycles (balance issues due to the severe back problems) and I found my SCARAB Recumbent Trike where balance is no longer an issue. Flying Radio COntrolled Sailplanes was a great hobby till I hurt my back so bad and I really miss it. I hope to be able to SCUBA Dive once again once I get settled in CA this time around. Home (Kansas) has been great, but I miss the Open Ocean, sailing, powerboating, SCUBA Diving, Seafood.....so many things associated with the Pacific Coast. I stil am in contact with many of my Navy friends and hope that updating my Classmates Profile will allow some of you that wish to contact me to do so. I still very much enjoy being outdoors, although there are some great reasons to be indoors when it relates to some awesome computers and peripherals. From Photography, Cats, reading, electronics, riding my trike, flying stunt kites, firearms, archery, being on/in the water, the desert, mountains, visiting places, driving across country, eating new and exciting foods, meeting new and old friends alike...Life is great when you truely live it.
