Lisa's Story
Life
Lived in Las Vegas after traveling the globe courtesy of Uncle Sam and his army. Have a wonderful 23 year old daughter from a previous marriage & love photography. Several pictures were used by Siegfried & Roy. Studying German at MHS, being an army intelligence translator & living in Germany for 7 yrs., paid off. Too bad Marie-Louise, our German teacher isn't around to see it. I miss the burning rice fields of Marysville. NOT!
Thanks to Classmates.com, Frank Chase (MHS '78) & I reconnected after 22 yrs. I moved to the SF Bay Area. We married on 01/01/01 after attending Siegfried & Roy's New Year's Eve show and private party. Loni Raffety (Benton & class of '79) has her own dressmaking business & made my wedding dress. She did a great job!
My daughter is attending college locally and studying video production. She made an award-winning documentary during her senior year in high school and it was shown at 3 film festivals in Los Angeles and 1 in New York City. Through her, I've started learning the ins and outs of filmmaking during the last 4 years and have discovered a new talent and passion for it. At least it keeps me out of trouble! You can go to YouTube and view my assorted attempts under the user name of mirageboys.
After working for many years, I decided to go into business for myself and became an Avon representative. I love it and am doing well. In my first year, I was in the top 10 for my district in both recruiting and sales ($23K). In my second year, I made the division top 20 list for recruiting. Three years in, our team sales were over 1/8th of a million dollars ($126K). Currently I have 85 people on my team. We are tracking to have between $300-$450K in team sales this year. My team covers all of the San Francisco Bay area. I've received both the Spirit of Avon and the recruiting excellence awards.
College
College career was sporadic but culminated in a B.S. Liberal Studies degree from Regents College in Albany, New York in 1990 (now Excelsior College). Depth requirements (majors) were in Soviet/Russian studies and German language. Started college in 1979 in Denver at Colorado Women's College. After dropping out and joining the army, I continued my college education through courses with City College of Chicago and University of Maryland. Between all of my various courses, exams and military training, I finally got my degree in 1990 and went to the commencement in Albany with another dear friend who had also received his degree through Regents. The irony of the whole commencement was that I was put between 2 other graduates who were followers of the Reverend Sun Yung Moon Reunification Church (also known as Moonies!).
Military
I spent 5 years and 9 days (but who counted?) in Uncle Sam's army. The exact dates of active duty were May 21, 1980 to May 30, 1985, alt...Expand for more
hough I was delayed entry from as early as January of 1980. After basic training at Ft. LeonardWood, Missouri during the great heat wave and all the chicken farmers losing their chickens, I went on to language school at the Presidio of Monterey where I studied basic German for 10 months. Off to Goodfellow AFB in wonderful San Angelo, TX for a couple of months, then on to Ft. Devens, MA for a few weeks. My first official duty station was Field Station Berlin from August 1981 to June 1983. I met and married my first husband there. We left Berlin to go back to the Presidio of Monterey for intermediate/advanced language studies. My last and final duty station was Ft. Devens, MA.
Hobbies
I love being creative. To that end, my passions/hobbies include: photography, crafts, basketweaving, and filmmaking. I also love to travel, attend shows/concerts, and ballroom dance. My favorite books to read are usually celebrity autobiographies. I'm also passionate about NBA basketball. Having lived on both coasts my allegiances are with both the Boston Celtics and Sacramento Kings. I'm so happy the Celtics won last year. The last time they won was when my daughter was 6 months old.
