Lisa's Story
Well, I decided after high school I really wanted to go into social work, I still wanted to help people, and I thought this was how I wanted to do it. I went to OCC for a year then got accepted into Niagara University. The summer before I was to start my first semester there I met my true love - who is now my husband and my best friend. I lasted one semester at Niagara U and then got accepted and transferred to Syracuse University.
It is very hard to stay focused when in love so once I realized my parents expected me to actually graduate before I got married - yes at this point I was engaged, I decided that it was back to the original plan - OCC - I got a degree in humanities - whatever that was, it looked good on a diploma.
In May of 1992 Mark and I got married and started our lives together. We lived in Tipp Hill for 8 years, but after our first child - Tyler was born in 1997 we realized we needed to get out of the city. We moved to Liverpool in 2001, and have lived here since, we love it here - my husbands alma mater school too!
After a 4 year struggle...Expand for more
with infertility, we gave birth to our second child - Emily, and she has completed our family. I always thought I knew what I wanted, I had envisioned myself changing the world by helping people. My life has turned out different than I had anticipated, now I am mom to these two wonderful kids who change my life on a daily basis - guess I was the one to be changing!
Now that Emily is older our family is enjoying camping and hiking! Emily's little 4 year old legs keep up with our thrity something legs just fine, it's just hard keeping up with our 11 year old, man is he fast!! So despite the ups and downs of life, I am married to my best friend, and a stay at home mom to Tyler and Em. It's funny how life never ends up quite how you thought it would.
***For those of you who knew my mom & dad, my dad passed away quite suddenly from what we think was a heart attack on April 29th of this year (2008). It was the day after his 73rd birthday. I am going to miss him so much, he was a wonderful dad, and my kids adored him especially my little Emmy, she loved her Papa.
