Lisa's Story
Hello everyone, this is Lisa Dedmon class of 1982 graduate.
It really doesn't seem like it ahs been 28 years ago since high school but it has. It is really strange, sorta, to look back at the names on this page and try to put the faces with the names. Some you can remember some you can't. The names sound familiar, but I just can't quite remember the faces.
Well, as for the past 28 years of my life, I would have to say that I have been blessed. Life has not been without its ups and downs, but I've had more good than bad that is for sure.
I am single, been divorced for quites some time (yeaaaaaaah!) sometimes that is a good thing. I have two children. A son that is 22, A senior at Langston University. He is a chemistry major and he is just about to be aout of his mothers purse! My daughter, who is 20, is a Junior and a math major at Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia. She is not to far behind him in the purse issue.
I have two grandson's. Yep, I am a grandmother. Now that one was hard for me to get used to. But I am adjusting. Funny how life never goes as you planned it huh?
Somehow, I got stuck in Muskogee. I never left. Well, I know the reasons why, but it's quite detailish, so we will save that one for another day. However, I'm here and have owned and operated my beauty salon for nearly 25 years. This past year I I ventured out and got a job teaching cosmetology at a vo-tech, but I resigned at the end of the school year. Where I taught at, well...that's another story.

uctor for about 22 years, but never taught it on a regular basis. Just as a sub or for little stints at time. But I found out this year that I liked it. So right now I am writing a business plan to open my own school.
I also attended Northeastern State University. I received my bachelors degree in journalism and my master's degree in communication. I really like the journalism thing. Graphic art, photography, reading, and writing. Things of that nature. I have done work on the side in those areas. Once I started a little human interest newspaper that I wrote, edited, and published for about 3 years. I really, really enjoyed that because i truly believe that knowledge empowers people. I love learning.
I was recently accepted into the PhD program in the spring to begin working on my Doctoral degree. I am pretty excited about that. I really am. I am getting ready to take the GRE. Send up a prayer for me on that one. I heard it is a booger!. Send up a prayer for me period, I am getting older and studying...well let's just say I will be praying too!
It was nice sharing a little bit aobut me with you all. It felt like I was talking to an old friend. Please, understand me when I say, if not for the Grace and Mercy of God, the little bit i've tried to accomplish in my life would not have been possible. Because it is truly God, and God alone that has blessed me with His favor. So I brag not, but I just give Him all the glory and honor. For He truly is worthy to be praised!
Many Blessings,
Lisa E. Dedmon
