Lisa's Story
I always had an impulse to get out of South Florida. The heat, humidity, tourists & old people and no seasons to speak of. I got my B.S. degree in Business Admin - Finance Major - Investment Analysis with dual minors in Marketing & German. I married the guy I dated in college. We enjoyed a 3 month honeymoon in Europe and lived in Gainesville for a while. He was into race cars & speed boats and I got into horses. We moved back to West Palm. We parted ways in 1988; I moved out to live in Southern California. Realized I'd never be able to afford real estate there on my own; and there were so many men! and so few were straight. :( I moved to Dallas, TX in May of 1989. I developed my career there in non-bank commercial lending. I got married again in 1994, to a pilot this time. We parted ways in 2000. I moved to Ft. Worth & lived there a couple of years. Outside of work, I enjoyed pub sports, and continued doing animal rescue work.
I don't have any kids or other things tying me down to any one spot. So I moved to Anchorage, Alaska in Sept. 2002 with a girlfriend of mine. I had to change careers here, since it's all about healthcare & oil up here. I even went back to school for a s...Expand for more
emester in `04 to see about getting a second bachelors degree in Nursing. I realized I didn't want additional student loans & would never take smack off of a doctor, so I went back to work. I'm now an engineering assistant for a company that provides engineering support to the TransAlaska Pipeline.
My picture is of me out fishing for rainbow trout in May. I caught a 24" trout that day, along with some smaller ones.
I love the wildness of Alaska. I recently won the Denali road lottery, where you can drive your personal vehicle through for one day. I'll post some pics from that. Moose run rampant here in Anchorage. They're in your yards, eating your trees; they're running across the highway in front of you. We've had lots of bears in town this year. A man shot an 8'9" grizzly from his porch the other day and he just lives on the other side of town. Big wild life up here! And we've got interesting politics too. I live with my 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 parakeets and 4 fish in a big house in South Anchorage. I have a 4-wheel drive Nissan Xterra to get me around. I like it and think I'll stay here for a while more; but probably not forever. There are too many places in this world to experience.
