Lisa's Story
Life
After high school I joined the Army. Today I have two great children and a wonderful husband. Our son Melvin transfered to ASU and is now a sophmore. Our daughter is beginning her ninth grade at Vicenza American High School in Italy. My husband Paul is retired from the Army and works for the American Government overseas. I am currently working for CACI, International and still participate actively in the Army Reserves (20 yrs). We live in Villaganzerla, Italy (6 years) with Gabriella and our two dogs Sophia (Germany Shepherd) and Razz (Siberian Husky).
School
This is awkward to admit; but I would have to say my biggest crush was probably Marshall Moore c/o 84. I think most of everything I did as a teenager was an attempt to get his attention. I always wanted to be older, now I realize how naive and foolish I was as a young girl. Thank goodness I finally grew up and found life experiences in the military based upon character, hard work and strong ethics. I try to instill education and future goals and careers in my children and remind them to stay clear of the detours and obstacles in life.
College
I attended Hawaii Pacific University (1992-1994) while stationed on Oahu and University of Maryland where I still take courses from time to time. While taking courses for Business Management, I worked as a full time soldier, was married and a full time mother. With sacrifice there are rewards. I did not experience the 'typical' 4-year university with parties and sororities; however, I have a great life and no regrets.
Workplace
While in high school I was employed at a variety of grocery stores in Newton County...Expand for more
; Red and White, Kroger, Food Giant and Super Value. After graduation I joined the Army and served on Active Duty until 2001. I then worked as a defense contractor for Logistics Managment Resources, Inc., a government service civilian (GS-11) in logistics and currently for CACI International, Inc. as an Intelligence Analyst. I also continue to serve the military in the Army Reserves (20 years of service) for 1 weekend/month and 2-4 weeks a year unless called for extended service tours. So far I have been called back to duty once since 2001 for 18 months.
Military
I think everyone that has ever served within the military has countless stories one could write books about. For me, the military has made me who I am today. It is an honor to serve. Sometimes service is great (living in Hawaii) and not so great (living in a tent), again nothing comes without sacrifice and it is the selfless service that gives me a greater appreciation of life. On the positive, I have had the priviledge to live and experience Savannah, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Hawaii, Korea, Germany, Puerto Rico, Italy and visit United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria, Spain, Portugal and the list goes on. I met the love of my life through the military while living in Germany and going through a divorce. Both my children have grown up as Army Brats and also travel the world and possess multi-linguistic abilities. In my career as a civilian, I work hard every day to support the warfighter that has boots on the ground in some foreign place away from their families. The Army is a part of my being and I am proud to be a part of our Army family.
