Lisa's Story

Life Wow, this feels so weird...but I love finding out what OTHER people are doing, so here goes... I moved to Florida in the early '80's (thanks to some help from Sandy Krzak!) and have been here ever since, with the exception of a year back and forth between Florida and Nashville in 2001. Work has consumed most of my adult life, but it's really fun stuff. For the past dozen or so years I have worked in the television industry as a writer/producer and have been lucky enough to be able to make a living in this field without having to move to LA or NY! It's been a great ride, and in June I received an Emmy award for a show I wrote and Executive Produced called Saving a Species: The Great Penguin Rescue...I do a lot of wildlife shows. We shot this show in Africa and while I was there my dad got sick and passed away right after I got back. So it was even more of an honor to receive the award because this particular show felt really tied to my father. I am now in the process of launching a non-profit company called The Paper Airplanes Project, which develops products that help kids with cancer deal with the emotional aspects of their illness. Music continues to be my first love (thanks Mrs. George, Mr. Kressler and Mr. Sawyer for the high school musicals!) and I've written lots of songs over the years--one result was Paper Airplanes...Expand for more
, which utilizes screenplays and music to help kids in a hospital or clinic setting better understand what they may be experiencing. Please visit the site if you get a chance: paperairplanesproject either dot com or dot org. I still have strong Michigan ties, and get up north several times a year to see friends and relatives. I own some property in Manistee on the west coast, so eventually hope to come back...at least for part of the year...I'm pretty spoiled with the Florida sun! DeWitt was the best place I could ever imagine growing up--Lake Geneva, all the woods and nature around us, Looking Glass River, and of course the people. I think of so many people so often, and still keep in touch with several. Funny how we may have touched each other so profoundly, so long ago, including our teachers, often without even knowing the impact were having. So many people certainly helped shape who I became along the way and who I am today. OK, so much for sentimentality! Our 30th reunion last fall was a blast. I really enjoyed the homecoming game (thanks, Kim Ballard for inviting me to cheer! What a riot!), and meeting afterward at the old DeWitt Bar. It was so cool to see everyone and still recognize people after all these years. If you're reading this, I'd love to hear from you--drop me a line and let me know what you're up to!
