Lisa's Story

In 1971, I got a job at Cook-Whitehead Ford, working part time answering the phone on Saturdays, which was part of the DCT program, where you go to school for a half day, and work the other part of the day. Mr. Livingston was my teacher, a dear man, who passed away a couple of years after I graduated. God Bless His Soul. During my career at this wonderful place to work, I spent time in every department, and worked my way up to the Sales Department in 1986, when we opened our Isuzu franchise. For 4 years, I worked in this department as a dual role, selling automobiles and performing the finance duties for this site. In 1990, I was promoted to Finance Manager at the main Ford store, working my way to Finance Director in 1992. I loved my time at Cook-Whitehead Ford, and when Charles Whitehead sold the dealership to a conglomerate in 1998, I took an early retirement. The new facility of Cook-Whitehead Ford is beautiful, however it does seem odd when I go home and visit there, and the building has changed... There are still a handful of people that work there that I worked with so long ago...although it doesn't seem like it has been that long...how time passes:)! We were part of a family with Charles Whitehead at the head; it was a great time! My husband, who had spent 32 years in the United States Navy, wanted to go full time RVing around the country. So, we set out in April of 1998, visited 28 states, and settled in Port Angeles, WA by June, 1999. We saw some awesome places and sites, and had a wonderful time! Once in Port Angeles, I went to work at the Ford store there, selling and financing automobiles. After 4 years of continuing my career in the auto business, I decided it was time for a change. I took my Washington state real estate classes, and acquired my license in January of 2004. For the next 4 years, I enjoyed this career, until the collapse of the real estate industry in August of 2007. During my time in Port Angeles, I joined the Rotary Club (of which I was the Centennial President), the Soroptimist Club of Port Angeles Jet-Set International (of which I was President and still a member of this club), served on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Gir...Expand for more
ls Club of the Olympic Peninsula, board member of the Port Angeles Food Bank and participated in many community functions. Port Angeles is the home town of my husband, a little port town about 70 miles north of Seattle with around 20,000 residents. It is a beautiful place, with the mountains behind it and the Straits of Juan de Fuca in front of it. It was such a very different place to live than Panama City, FL. Victoria, Canada is only 18 miles across the water, and we spent quite a bit of time there. It boasts Buchart Gardens, one of the most beautiful gardens in the world, with about a million visitors a year. Our home there looked out over the water and straight into Victoria Canada, it was breathtaking! By August, 2010, we relocated to Ocala, FL, where I have a nephew and his son and some long time dear friends who live here. We are just getting settled into a new home here, and are very excited to be retiring in this area. I do miss the beautiful beaches of Panama City, where my mother and dear friends still reside, but it is only a few hours away:)! I just got a new job at a Sun Communities place, Water Oak Country Club, and my position there is Community Sales Representative. This is a perfect place to finish out my working career:)! Sun Communities has over 136 communities in 18 states with over 47,000 residents. This is a wonderful place to retire to, offers "lifestyle living", with a golf course, beautiful pool, clubhouse, tennis, softball and other ammenities. Best of all, it is very affordable living! I can't imagine "retiring" again, as it is hard for me to sit still. My husband and I love to travel, and we have been to some really beautiful places; Australia, Bermuda, Bahamas, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. Of course he's been all around the world many times, which is why he wanted to see the United States in our RV. It's been a very lovely life I've enjoyed, especially with my husband, Glenn Wyatt. He is the best human being I have ever met, and can still say that after 18 years of marriage:)! I wish to all my classmates, that your lives have been as rewarding as mine:)! Wishing you a great day, a smile in your heart, and good health:)! Lisa Wyatt
