Lisa's Story

My story like many others, is much to complex to tell here. And in telling it, it is not to evoke any sympathy. PLEASE! Just information. OK : ) However, "briefly," some of you know that I was a pretty sick gal. I was hit by a car in 1998 and have had many ups and downs. Sadly, more downs than ups. After our last reunion I kind of fell apart again. The physical pain became again, to much to bear. I tried very hard to keep my life some how "normal."It did not work. I went back to work as an art teacher even tried to get my masters degree, but became very sick while in Baltimore and was in and out of the hospital for a long time. I had to stop working for good. I could not drive or function in any really meaningful or fulfilling way. The physical pain was just too much! FINALLY, about 1 1/2 years ago I made a difficult but necessary decision. There is nothing I can do about my physical health. So I began to work on my mental health and am doing MUCH better in that respects. I finally just got my first car of my very own in over 6 years! That might not seem like much to other people but now I CAN drive when I feel well and it allows me to escape from some of the prison that my body has sub come to. So, even though I will probably never be able to work again, I am able to have a much more meaningful life in many regards despite the pain. I am big into gardening (I know BORING), but it give me some pleasure and helps keep my mind occupied. I still read occasionally and really I just want/need to have some fun and pleasure in life just like everyone else does. Even though I have for now given my art a "time out." I still enjoy seeing it and learning about it. Mostly I get a great deal from life enjoying the company and importance of good friends and my family. My immediate family consists now of Oscar 10 (Keeshound) Zorro 10 (Bernese Mt. Dog) Chiefers 5 (Maine Coon), Snickers 4 (Snowshoe) and our baby Layla 12 weeks (Great Pyrenees). My parents, sister and oh yeah, : ) my husband. Right now I am trying to reconnect with the people I knew, cared about, didn't know so well and like I said, enjoy life. I guess, briefly, that is my story. I would like to hear from anyone from Oak Park, Southfield, Camp etc., anyone from my past. I cannot always promise to write all the time. But I will write. And if anyone would like to meet for lunch or coffee some time I'd really like that. Ok, here is the cheesy part where I answered the set questions: I always wanted to be a writer, artist or veterinarian when I grew up. My family and friends thought I could do anything I set my mind too. possible idea. As it turns out, they were right and wrong-confused. I enjoy the company of good friends and family.I like to plant beautiful flowers and watch them grow and bloom. I have come to enjoy feeding wild birds and this year I had my first hummingbirds. I like to ...Expand for more
read, create and teach art. I also enjoy and occasional Long Island Ice Tea The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again:well there are many many.Life is short and the past is the past. I adore my furry kidlets. They have helped save my life. And yeah, I like to watch TV (sounding like Peter Sellers here).Gardening, and traveling. And while I hate this expression and do not do it like I used to, I like to "party" from time to time. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel EVERYTHING and add on... well, I think it would be easier to just move. My dream home would be Arts & Crafts, Frank Loyld Wright,Contemporary. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to my family, select charities, then spend the rest on a new house, clothes, investments, traveling the world and kicking back. My current age is 46.5. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be one foot in the grave. Older than dirt. I was so completely correct, confused and misguided. The older I get, the younger "old" is. My best friends would tell you I'm funny, wild, crazy(both ha-ha and certifiably)compassionate, loving, helpful, great listener, forgiving, remorseful immature,fun-loving,determined.People who don't know me very well would probably describe me as shy,crazy(certifiably),quiet,weird...? I like to dress trendy and fun. I still like "big" (medium) hair.Bright colors and fun patterns,"retro." I share my home with 2 cats 3 dogs and 1 husband, which I find wild, fun, crazy and stress invoking at times. In 10 years, I hope to be healthier. I'm going to get there by hard work and determination. My oldest and dearest friends are two brothers that I have known since I was 4 year when my family moved to Oak Park. They lived two doors down and there are 8 kids in their family. One of the other brothers was my first "boyfriend." Even though they both now live in other states and we see each other only once every few years, it's like we were always together. We are all silly and get entertained just by being with each other and finding fun in the sublime. My first job of meaning was at Camp Tamarack, where I got paid 400.00 (plus "room and board") for the entire summer.I cleaned toilets, mopped floors and other grungy stuff. What I remember most about it is that I loved every second of it. Other than in the bathrooms, it was so beautiful there. I had peace like I have never experienced before. It is where I met some of the most important people of my life. The next best job I had was being a cocktail waitress at The Spaghetti Company on Woodward. That is where I "came out of my shell." I had so much fun there and met there as well some of the most important people in my life. And finally, the most rewarding job I had was being an art teacher. Ok, so now that I have answered most of the cheesy questions, please write anytime. I hope all is well with your world! Take care, Lisa
