Lisa's Story
Life
Greetings, All-
After graduation I attended George Mason University on an Army ROTC Scholarship. I graduated with a BA in Communications in May of 1989 and three days later reported to Fort Gordon, Georgia to begin my Army Signal Officer Basic Course. I spent 10 years on active duty, living in such diverse places as Texas, Georgia and Germany. I served twice in Saudi Arabia (first time during Desert Shield/Storm), in Somalia during Provide Hope and in Bosnia during the initial peace process. During all that I spent 5 years (on and off) earning a Masters in Human Resource Managment (awarded in 1996). In 1998 I married a fellow officer I met in my Signal Officer Advanced Course. I left the active Army in the summer of 1999 to start my own business. Up until September 11, 2001, I worked for Accenture as a business consultant for high tech firms in the Atlanta area. After September 11, 2001 I went on an extended leave of absence from Accenture and returned to active military duty for two and a half years. I worked in the Army's Forces Command Headquarters in Atlanta. I returned to Accenture in April 2004, and in ...Expand for more
May 2005 moved back to Virginia and transferred to Accenture's office in Reston, VA, where I provided consulting services to the Federal Government, and helped organizations prepare for large-scale transformational changes in how they do business. In April 2006, we finally found a home in a location we could all love - Herndon, VA. I left Accenture in December 2008 and am now focused on running my own human resources consulting firm - The Value Of a Veteran. I now help companies understand the business value of recruiting military veterans into their organizations, and teach them the tactics for doing so.
My husband and I have three boys, Jack (6), Alex (1 yr) and Evan (born June 2009). We are also the proud "parents" of a 16 year old Shiba Inu (japanese hunting dog - very cute). Although my days in the theater ended after graduation, I still remain an active patron of the arts. I attend the ballet, the opera, any Broadway show that comes in to town, and symphonies. I try to get to NYC at least once a year. I'd love to hear from any former classmates (SMA or BI or little St Mary's) and old Army buddies everywhere.
