Lisa's Story

I am living in Houston with my husband and three youngest children. We have been here for the last six years. While trying to survive the humidity, we have been very blessed to live in a wonderful community full of opportunities and close friends and family. The last year has brought about many changes in our lives. Our oldest Kami currently working on her PhD in political science, eloped to Hailey, Idaho with her husband Christopher. The pictures are definitely worth a thousand words! They have also recently announced they are expecting their first baby! We are thrilled and only wish they were closer to us! Brandt is in his second year of medical school and also just wed this Christmas at a historic home in Birmingham, AL to an absolute Angel Mae! They are just getting settled, he is studying and she is working as a cardiac ICU nurse. There is always an awkward pause when talking about my children, we lost a little girl due to a heart condition when she was two weeks and she is buried in a little country cementary close to where I was born. I usually say I have six children and leave it at that and don't explain unless questioned. Closer to home we are preparing for Cody's impending graduation on June 7th. I am so looking forward to everyone together under one roof for a few nights. Cody's graduation is a major achievement as he battled leukemia and very rare complications for five years. e with honors and attend UT Honors Plan II program this fall. Kailey will be a junior and is excited to jump start her future in medicine with some great opportunities and classes next year. My baby is graduating 8th grade and is headed off for the high school drum-line. We will be spending every weekend at the high school football game cheering on our Klein Oak Panthers! I have loved every minute and realize how fortunate I am in being able to be a SAHM. I also try and stay connected with volunteer work at the school and church. My husband Carlos gave up his private practice and joined a group practice which has tripled his time off! He is now able to arrange his call schedule according our lives and not schedule our lives according to his on-call schedule!! Which will come in handy when I need to see the new baby! I just recently was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and have begun treatments which I am anticipating to improve my health and join the land of the living once again. It has been a challenge, but I have had so many other things to focus on, which has helped immensely. I pass by a mirror and don't recognize myself at times. Steroids did not give me an athletic body or finely chiseled muscles! LOL Think the dough boy! I look forward to hearing from everyone. My memories of Petersburg are good ones and have realized as I get older that they are a building block of how my life has turned out.
