Liz Barnum:

CLASS OF 1976
Albany, GA

Liz's Story

Life After leaving Albany and Dougherty High School my junior year I graduated from a school in North Little Rock , Arkansas. After graduation I attended LPN school in Little Rock at the Baptist Hospital and after graduating there I began the RN program the next year. I remained in North Little Rock where my family was until 1990 and worked at the Veterans Hospital. In the Fall of 1990 I began working as a "MObile Nurse" and moved for three months to Vero Beach , Florida. I went home for the holidays and returned to Florida to work for three months in Orlando and then back to Little Rock and on to New Orleans ( food was good as were the parties but work was dreadful so I left after three weeks). From there I returned to Little Rock and began packing my house up that I had subletted to a Surgery Resident. In August of 1991 I moved to Honolulu, Hawai with a few other nurses I had met in Florida. This was to be for six months. Within a few weeks I felt sure I would be there longer and I was right. I stayed for seven years. In early December of 1991 I met a man, Tim Barnum, who became my husband in 1993. His father like mine had been military so he did not think my travels were odd. In 1996 we had a son Alex and in 1998 we had my parents ninth and last grandchild Megan. I have four sisters and we all had boys until Megan came along so needless to say she is a bit of a Princess. We left Hawaii in September 199...Expand for more
8 due to the cost of living, spent a few months in Little Rock and my husband got a job here in Louisville, Kentucky where we remain. Tim had come to Kentucky from Hawaii for college so had some connections here. I still work but am now in a Radiation Oncology Clinic. I have been a nurse 30 years this past June and in October moved my mother here with us from Arkansas to care for her. It is an honor that I am able to do this after so many years of caring for others parents that I can take care of her during her last days. All my sisters and I scattered throughout the states. Washington, Oklahoma, Texas and Florida. We get together for 50th birthdays in Vegas without kids and those are coming quicker than I care to say, but if you were in my class you have the same dilemma. 2008 is a big year for many of us and although I thought I would make a realistic goal for my fiftieth rather than deciding to run a marathon I am going to learn the Bongo drums. One of my most memorable occassions in Hawaii was sitting out on the beach one night with friends and some of the locals jamming with the Bongos. Wishing everyone a great year! Liz Clark Barnum My kids are Alex and Megan and I forgot to mention my 85 pound lap dog Sadie who is a pound puppy boxer mix. She was my mother in laws dog and pulled her down and broke her hip and shoulder so we kept her while we tried to find her a new home. That was 3 years ago.
