Liz's Story
After graduation I followed my sister to Mount SAC but only stayed one year. I then went into the Navy and became a Corpsman. I was stationed at San Diego where I met my future husband Steven. We married in 1972 had our first child and decided that we needed to do something drastic with our lives to make sure we could provide for our family. We went to the University of Wyoming and obtained our BSN. It was difficult 4 years but we graduated in 1977 with our son Chris pinning our nursing pins on our collars and the entire auditorium came to their feet applauding and crying at the same time. Six months after graduation we added a baby girl Andrea.
Steven entered the military as an officer in the Navy Nurse Corps and after a few decades he transferred into the Army Nurse Corps to finish off his career. The military life was crazy moving a lot from different duty stations in Europe and the US. We were to Rota S...Expand for more
pain when the Marine Corps barracks were destroyed. My Girl Scout troops greeted the Marines at the docks with signs that said "welcome home". Those Marines broke ranks and hug my little brownies. The girls kept on giving them the cookies hoping that would make them feel better.
We were stationed in Frankfurt Germany during the first Desert Storm. Steven assembled the MASH units on the lawn of the hospital. I worked developing procedures for all the wards so they would be prepared whatever happened. Our children, everyones, started making the beds, answered phones, moved furniture, anything that they were asked to do.
After Steven retired from the service we decided that we would do something different. We worked for Pfizer as Clinical Auditors. It was interesting looking at drugs before they were approved and ensuring that they were studied correctly.
Now we are retired and happy at over 50 years together.
