Lois's Story
Life
Graduation from WHS led to Mount Holyoke and graduation from Wagner College on Staten Island in '66. Then off to SU for a Master's and a career in student personnel. I worked at SUNY Albany (during the Kent State murders), then further west to SUNY Geneseo. Volunteer activity as a family planning health educator led to full-time work with the local health department. A late bloomer, Doug and I married at age 30, and settled on his family land. At the age of 40, I returned to school full-time at the Univ of Rochester to obtain a BS in Nursing. After a short stint in the hospital setting, I returned to Public Health working for NYS as a Public Health Program Nurse in Maternal and Child Health Programs. In August '07 I retired as Community Health Director who oversaw staff and programs in Lead, Migrant Health, WIC, Food Banks, Tobacco, WIC and Cancer Services. Doug retired from the SUNY Geneseo maintenance staff in 1997, has a small odd job business, "Doug'll Do It", and enjoys...Expand for more
working in and around our 2 acres. Our only child, Jill, married in 2000, and lives in Rochester, so we talk every day and see her once each week. Grandson Keaton turned 5 in June 11.. I'm still active in a local Lutheran Church, that began as a mission church and will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2012. I finished Deaon training and will focus on leading worship and home visitation . We travel, with trips to the Pacific Northwest and Alaska's Inside Passage , Jamaica and several to Mexico, an August 07 trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Wisconsin and an Aug 09 trip to the Alaska interior. We've dined with George Booth, Camille Vrbanich, Marge Roepke and Walter Goedeke. Reconnected with Victoria Posner in 1984 (she lives in Rochester, NY) and we've been fast friends since. 2002 Reunion and mini-Florida reunion in May 2008 were great.
I keep busy with gym exercise, spinning,yoga, book club singing in a community chorus. and tap dance. Am really enjoying retirement!
