Lois's Story
Life
I have always lived in Saskatchewan, mostly Saskatoon and Big River. Most of my childrearing years were spent in the forest near Big River, where my partner and I built our own house and lived without Sask power or running water, and heated only with wood. I home-schooled my 4 kids,3 girls and a boy, until they decided they wanted to go to school and they spent most of their early years exploring the forest around them, with other home-schooled kids in the neighbourhood. They had horses to ride and chores to do and learned about the simple life and a world of art and music . Although I have never found my artistic medium or learned to play an instrument, I was always part of a community of artists and musicians, and my kids and grandkids (of which I have 5) are still part of that community. Both of my youngest, one boy one girl, are accomplished musicians, and all live in or near Sasktoon.

k, where my current partner and I have been running a small store and restaurant for the past 8 years. That is all about to change, as small town business is dwindling to an insignificant trickle, and we are working on finding inventive ways to make use of the resources at hand. Tune in next year. Meanwhile my grandchildren are my greatest joy. Ranging in age from 7 months to 10 years, they are all very clever and loving children who light up when they see their Gramma and I would happily spend all of my time with them if circumstances would allow it. I would take them all to live in the forest and learn about the simple life.
I still keep horses, and various other critters from time to time- cats, rabbits, a llama and sometimes goats. And I am back to heating only with wood, which means on these(-20) days I am getting in shape running up and down stairs feeding three fires to keep this huge building from freezing up.
