Lonnie's Story
I spent my freshman year of college at the State College of Iowa (later UNI) and graduated with an AA from Area Ten Community College (later Kirkwood) in 1968. After one more year at UNI, I went into the Air Force for 9 years. While in the Air Force I contacted Senator Harold Hughes about falsified classified documents, so my Air Force career was cut short. I did finish my undergraduate degree in math at UNI in 1974 while still in the Air Force. In 1979 I started to work for NCR in Dayton, Ohio as a programmer. I helped to write the first compiler for NCR's ATMs.
I stayed with NCR for 20 years as a Director of Architecture, Director of Engineering, VP in various areas, President of a small acquisition in Dryden, NY, and General Manager for a facility in Scotland which allowed me to live in Edinburgh, Scotland for 2 1/2 years. My last year with NCR I was supposed to be located in Dayton, Ohio, but I spent 65 days in ...Expand for more
the U.S. It wasn't all bad, since 5 months was in Paris.
I started my own consulting company in 2000 with a friend from Scotland. I sold the U.S. part of the company to Lighthouse Technologies, Inc. in 2004, where I worked for 3 1/2 years. Now I'm semi-retired and only doing occassional work for companies in London (Collins-Stewart, Tullett Prebon, Havas Media and Waitrose) and in Calgary (Canadian Pacific Railway).
My first wife, Betty Ann Beck, and I had two children, Judith Ann and Michael John. I now have 6 grandchildren: Umar Jabreel Atlagh, Mariam Aisha Atlagh, Ruqayyah Atlagh, Zainab Atlagh, Elizabeth Ann Franks and Benjamin Douglas Franks. I've been married to my second wife for 25 years and we live in a small suburb just south of Dayton, Ohio (Oakwood).
Since I'm now semi-retired, I spend more time with my dogs and fishing. I also still enjoy working with computers, which I seem to have done my whole life.
