Lora's Story

Life I'm an RN. I have the pleasure and yes sometimes the tradgedy of working in the VA intensive care unit with our wonderful veterans! I have seen the tragic side of life and I've seen prayers answered. I have had the pleasure over the past year of caring for wonderful men and women at their most vulnerable times. What touches my heart the most are those who await transplants. For 8 long months I was there through the ups and downs with Danny and his wife, Mary, as he struggled to hold on to life as his heart failed. Likewise I was there in spirit to celebrate with them when he was able to walk his daughter down the isle, unincumbered by technology after the selfless gift of a new heart was given to him by a family lost in tragedy. His love for life and gratitude for this gift is seen every day in him. I was also able to see Walt go thru the ups and downs and celebrate with him recently as he recieved the gift of life from another family lost in grief. ift. He is recovering well near the hospital and his grown son will soon join him as caregiver until he is able to go home to New York to be with them. He and his son are excited about spending the next couple months here reconnecting with each other. Both of these families are so grateful for all the prayers sent out for them. Walt has asked me to ask for prayers for another that he also may live. His name is Spencer. He has a rare blood type and because of health issues is in need of not 1 but 2 lungs -- a rare request, but urgent. In our time of grief it is hard to phathom life without the one's we love. That love can continue. The love for life that the person we lost had, can still continue. A gift to those still here can restore vision to those who have never seen a sunset, a heart to one that is failing, kidneys to cleanse the body, bones to replace shattered bones, skin to repair skin burned in fire. This is a truly selfless, loving gift that we can all give and the rewards are amazing.
