Loren's Story
Life
A lot has happened since 1969.
Raced motorcycles for several years. Between my best friend and room mate at the time we had one room in the house filled with trophies. (ramsmc.org)
Got engaged to a Monroe alum. Got disengaged.
Moved out of LA in 1975 and headed up north to Sonoma County. Attended Sonoma State University and then grad school at University of Hawaii. Was a dolphin trainer and whale scientist while in the islands.
Moved back to Sonoma and started a small winery. That was fun but a huge money pit. Folded it up. Started a software company. Sold it. Also taught biology, comp sci, basketball, and volleyball at the college level. Currently adjunct faculty at Santa Rosa Junior College.
Now I'm a firefighter and just absolutely loving it. I got hired by the state at the age ...Expand for more
of 53. Beat out a bunch of 20 and 30 year olds for the job. I'm also a California state certified fire and EMS instructor and teach a variety of fire courses, CPR and first aid. I'm also the Fire Chief at one of the volunteer departments in Sonoma County. (mountainvfd.org)
I spend ten+ hours a week in the gym weight lifting and am perhaps in the best shape of my life. (Just creak a lot more then I did years ago. But hey.... that's what we have ibuprofen for.)
And I'm back racing motorcycles again. Won the Pacific Northwest title back in 2003. I also race the Mexican 1000 off-road race down the Baja penninsula. Tried to ironman (solo) it in 2017. Made it about 700 miles down and crashed and broke my wrist. Finished in 2018.
