Loretta's Story
I didn't actually graduate from Glen Alpine H.S., but I always felt a loss after moving away in the 11th grade. My parents moved to Maryland where I got my H.S. Diploma, met and married the man of my dreams, settled in MD, had a son and now have four beautiful grandchildren ages 3 - 11 yrs. (see Mom-Mom's Photos.) My husband Dennis and I just celebrated our 40th Anniversary October 10th. 2010. Who would have ever thought?
I am a 35 year Breast Cancer Survivor. Facing such a devastating illness had a huge impact on my life. I was 24, our son was 3 and Denny and I had only been married 5 years. I have always tried to live every day to its fullest and really never worried about what tomorrow would bring. ways it was a blessing for me to discover what it takes many people a lifetime to figure out, "Life is much too short, you can lose it in an instant." "Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today."
My Mom still lives on Carbon City Road, Morganton, NC where I grew up. I usually get down two; sometimes three times a year. I can't believe it has been more than forty years since I remember seeing most of my classmates and childhood friends.
Somehow I always imagined that I would retire somewhere in the South on a Lake. Now reality has set in and I'm not sure we will ever retire, but we may look for an area that is more affordable than the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area.
I really enjoyed the Class Reunion held at Judges in June 2010. I hope to see even more classmates and friends in 2011.
