Lori's Story
The past many years have taken me on a number of wild rides. God has been there from the beginning, seeing me through, and is still by my side. In the past 20 years I met and married the husband of my two youngest children, who are now 16 and 18. My oldest two daughters are still living in California (my oldest has traveled the world living the military life with her husband of 13 years, and they have given us three grandchildren!). My second daughter (step) is in Los Angeles, where she can be near her natural mother.
My adventure with my husband and his many job moves has taken me out of Fontana to Sacramento for a year, then to Houston, Texas for three years, back to Grand Terrace, CA for a year, to Springfield, Ohio for four years, Terre Haute, Indiana for a year, and back to Houston, where we have been (in our original home the first time we were here) since!
Yes, we were here during Hurricane Ike. It was the most violent storm I have ever experienced, and was more impressive than any of the earthquakes I experienced in Southern California, including Northridge and the Twin Quakes (Big Bear and High Desert) in the June of 1992. Ike knocked out our power and internet for two weeks. We survived on the stores of food we had put aside when we knew it was coming, but we got lucky; we still had clean running water and unbroken gas lines. I became a master chef on the barbecue,...Expand for more
making our morning breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast (yes TOAST!), coffee, and our lunches and dinners, as well. The spaghetti was a disaster, because we couldn't get the water to come to a solid boil, so the noodles sort of soaked in the hot water until they were soft enough to eat with the hot sauce out of a can.
Currently I am a Band Mom in my "spare" time. My youngest daughter has played the saxophone for the past five years, and has auditioned for Drum Major for her next school year. I am Lead Chaperon for the band, which entails a LOT of work and a ton of fun. I've met some great friends along the way. My only son graduates high school this year, and starts college in the fall. His career choice will involve computer networking. I am also a mixed martial arts student, and founder of Houston Paranormal Investigators. (See my photo taken with Britt Griffith of Ghost Hunters!)
My career has kept me in the medical field since about 1986, and I currently run a general surgery office with the cooperation of two other staff member and the doctor. I've been with him for going on 7 years now, and we started this office from the ground up. It's been a fun ride.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my profile page, and please feel free to find me on Facebook (Lori Nelson-Board), where I have been blessed enough to have met up with several of my other classmates from FoHi.
