Lori's Story

Life After graduating high school I went to a community colege near my home for 1 1/2 years. Then I worked at various jobs until 1981 I worked for a factory that made hydraulic hose fittings. I worked there 18 years until they were closed by a company that bought them out. So I was suddenly without a job. Lay off was fine for a few months. I went 9 months without a job. They were hard to find. I went back to college in 1988 and receieved an AA in Accounting. At the factory I worked at I was on the production line for about 8 years, then I did machine set up. After I got my AA a job in the accounting office opened and I worked there. Now I work at a Honda dealership in the parts department as a parts counterperson. and am learning about cars. I married a man I met while I was a student at college(the 1st time around). We have been married 26 years. We have a son Shawn who is a student at Iowa State college studying to be an engineer, and a daughter who is at AIB( American Institute of Business) in Des Moines, Ia. studying closed captioning. My daughter Diane has a full ride scholarship there because she was an honor student with a high grade point. My son didn't apply himself in high school so he has to "pay" for that now. They are both good kids. My husband has his own business that primarily is tree trimming, but he also does electrical and welding. He owns 2 boom trucks and a crane. So he can lift rafters and other big things that are heavy and awkward.
