Lori's Story

Life Hi all! Just wanted to update you on where life has taken me. Remembering our senior yearbook that used the theme of roads, my life's been quite a ride, with many ups and downs and turns to all kinds of destinations. At this particular crossroad in my life, I have 4 wonderful children. My boys are 25, 23, and 19. My daughter is 16. All my kids live either with me or near me, within an hour from my house in York, PA. I am divorced after almost 21 years of marriage, but very happy. Many of you know I lost my Mom to leukemia back in 2001. My Dad is still going strong and currently plays with 3 bands. He recently recorded a cd and he is now 81 yrs old! Can you believe that! My closest friends knew this, but many of my classmates did not know that I was adopted from birth by my parents. I recently found my birth mother and 2 brothers, 1 sister, my grandmother, and several aunts and uncles. I have had the opportunity to get to know them all over the past few years. I have been very blessed to have two wonderful and caring women as mothers. Where will my road lead to next? Well, I guess down a path that I have been both dreading and looking forward to. In January of 2008, I will become a grandmother. My oldest son, Tim, is expecting his first son. It's hard to believe my baby is now going to be a daddy. But that's how life is...we're constantly traveling, yet we never quite know where our road will lead us. My journey has not been easy, but I have become a stronger, more independent, and confident person because of it. I hope that all of your journeys have been good ones, and perhaps some of our paths will cross someday soon! I miss you all! Work...Expand for more
place I have done some interesting jobs and always enjoy trying new things! I started my job career at the Ox Yoke Inn, as most of you know. I spent many years working in the food industry, icluding my job in the Army, which was as a food inspector with the Veterinary Corps. I also spent some time doing the thing I loved most in school; singing. I had a band and traveled around singing; doing shows for the military in Germany for awhile. I also went to Nashville and sang with a friend's band as a guest singer at various clubs and recorded a demo tape. After the loss of my music mentor, I stopped singing onstage at that point and concentrated on raising my children. As most of you know, my other great love was animals. I have worked with animals since I was 16 and have been a groomer professionally since I was about 20. I have worked for vets, other groomers, pet shops, and have owned my own grooming business for many years. I also have been a breeder of golden retrievers and mini daschunds. I am a licensed hairdresser and owned my own salon for 9 years as well as being a taxi driver, a restaraunt manager, and a retail store manager. But as many of these things as I have done, (and the list here only includes some of the jobs I have tried), life ultimately led me down a road that I never planned nor expected to follow. I became a teacher. Not as noble an undertaking as it once was considered, but here I am. Currently I teach history and science to 8th grade special education students in Baltimore. It's a tough age, a tough city, and a tough job, but it's my current stop on the road of life. Time to refuel my "vehicle" and see where I am going next!
