Lori's Story
Life
I was married in March 2004 to Alvin Velarde. He is a labratory scientist, and I am currently taking a leave of absence after teaching middle school for 10 years. I never thought that I would enjoy working with middle school kids, but it's been really fun. We bought a home in Buena Park, and we had a baby boy in February 2005 His name is Joshua Michael, and I absolutely love being his mom. In October 2006 we added a little girl to our family - Malia Faith - what a joy. Our most recent addition is another boy - Micah James - born in Nov. 2008. Alvin and I are involved in our church, we love to travel, golf, work on the house and garden, and spend time with our families.
School

s a teacher I try to think about what I liked about the teachers there and see myself as my students do. I enjoyed so many classes, but my favorites were probably anatomy with Mr. Baeder or Bible with Mr. Endemano.
College
I started out at Cal State Long Beach, but was going so slowly that I didn't feel like I was ever going to graduate. I spent a semester in Europe (mainly in Austria) and had such a great time in those small classes. When I returned to Long Beach I knew that I needed to be at a smaller school. I transferred to Vanguard University (then Southern California College), and it was the perfect fit for me. I loved the small classes and the Christian environment. I decided to get my teaching credential there as well, and it was a great program.
