Lori's Story
Okay, here is the cliff notes version of me, since high school. :o)
I went to Radford U after high school. I spent 4 years there, doing a lot of partying and a very little bit of studying. Somehow, I managed to get a degree out of it all. (Three summers of summer school helped, I guess!). Anyway, I got a BA in Crimnial Justice. I had planned to work in either police work or corrections.
The first job I got landed me in Richmond, at a youth group home. I fell in love with working with kids. So, I found my niche. I stayed there for 2 years.
Then I got a job with the Department of Youth and Family Services (now Department of Juvenile Justice). I was working at Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center. I spent 17 years there, doing many different jobs. I left there in 2005 as a sgt. I transferred to the Reception and Diagnostic Center, right next door. It's the intake facility, where all the kids come after they get committed to DJJ. Now I am an intake counselor, doing evaluations and such. So, 20 years later, I still love what I do. I do get bored with the same job after a few years and will do something different, but it always is in the same field. I guess I just have a heart for these types of kids.
I was married in 1990 to Tom Hipps, most of you may remember. We divorced in 1998. I have remained single. I find it works out better that w...Expand for more
ay--for me, anyway. lol I am very headstrong and having been single for so long, I enjoy coming and going as I please. It's going to be one heck of a man that ever tames me, if it's possible. lol
I bought a house in 2001 in Chesterfield county. I love the Richmond area. It's really cool here. Lots to do.
I haven't travelled much. I visit Dee every so often in Atlanta, that's about it. My dad passed in 1996, but my mom is still in Appomattox. I go home to visit here often. I still show up at Liberty Baptist church on those weekends when I am home. (and yes, it's still home, always will be.) :o)
I am very active in my church here in Richmond. Singing a lot in the choir and active in the Richmond Emmaus community. (if you don't know what that is, just google it). It's really a neat ministry to be invovled in.
Die hard football fan, as always. Love the Cowboys. Just love football, period. Love that time of year, the fall, when the weather is cool. Love the mountains. Not much of a beach kind of gal.
Well, I guess that's all about me. Somehow, it doesn't really seem like cliff notes now, huh???
Oh well, I have always been a talker (or typer, as the case may be.).
